2003 Yamaha HDPI No Start/Sputter Has Spark

Electronic controlled engine. Relays, ECU, feedback sensors, rail pressure, and injectors are all likely suspects, none of which you have tested.

What causes fuel to go back into tank after primin

You need an opening to atmosphere (leak) to break the vacuum of a sealed fuel line to allow the fuel to drain back. A sticking float valve would do it, as would a leaky fuel fitting. Fuel filters and band style hose clamps are another common source of vacuum leaks. FWIW: a vacuum leak...

    Dead Batteries

Charger is looking at the rate of charge to determine capacity. A dead battery, pulling very little charge, will register 95% full :;)

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

Sounds fishy...... good quality coalescing filters are 98% efficient at removing water. I suspect the sensor is contaminated. Pull the line to your primer bulb and drop it in a gas can of fresh fuel. If the alarm is still there, the sensor is contaminated or needs reset

    Dead Batteries

No, they don't drain through the ground cable. That is a butt load of power to use that quickly!!!! Where and how is the second switch wired in to the system?

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

    weird grounding issue

Had to Google....... lot of the confusion comes from automotive burring the lines between power distribution and control circuits. It works, so it must be right.......lol Power distribution requires that you switch and fuse the Source for safety considerations. When using a switch as a...

    weird grounding issue

A simple analogy is to compare the flow of electrons from your battery to ground as a faucet and a drain If you want to stop the flow of current, you turn off the faucet (battery) you don’t plug the drain (switch negative)

    weird grounding issue

Power flows from positive to negative (ground). Unless you’re from the British isles, you switch positive for safety reasons in DC circuit ;) The difference between power and ground switching lies in the location of the control devices, either closer to power, or to ground, respectively...

    Water in the fuel

Been around since at least 1997 since mine has them on both tanks. https://www.perko.com/catalog/fuel_system_components/927/epa_compliant_sealed_flip_top_cap_fills_for_1-1_2_hose_with_vpr_-_angled_neck/ No vent fitting protruding through the side of the hull and no vent “loop” to worry about...

    What To Get?

I'm guessing you mean 3 miles from the inlet, not the beach since you could be 2 miles off the beach yet 15 miles from "safe harbor". Well, that's no fun. Where is your sense of adventure? Now, timing the arrival of cold fronts while Striper fishing in early winter can get interesting. Have...

    Trim Fails Going Up Randomly

Most things that come back to life after sitting for a bit are thermal related. By pass the relays to power the motor directly. Reverse wire polarity to see if problem stays or moves with wire swap
