    OMC Cobra outdrive not aligning

There’s that, and here’s a few tricks I learned on the Cobra… I use a drive jack with the boat on level ground Then get the height of the drive to line up with the pivot housing Next slide a long thin screwdriver in the ujoint area Carefully guide the driveshaft in keeping it as straight as...

    1989 Formula 26PC Twin Mercruiser 4.3LX, Alpha I, Gen 1 - Water Leak at/in Transom Assy

The caulk around the transom assemblies is a sign that there has been a problem for a while, with a transom & transom assembly in good shape you should never need caulk on the outside of the transom mount. This is one of the chronic headaches of I/Os they can leak from several areas in the...

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

I did think of that but bending myself into the spot I've have to get into, is beyond my current physical flexibility lol. And don't want to muck it up. I use either Sierra or Merc filters and have never had trouble getting one off. Another good option for these engines is Wix. I have a...

    I am not perfect.

Agreed about appliances et al. We have an 80s Kenmore fridge and a 70s Hobart dishwasher that I refuse to get rid of. A good friend redid his house a few years back and has all modern appliances and they all are junk.

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

Thanks for the confirmation on the bypass. I think I bought that same valve from Merc, I have to check the package. As my engine is installed I can't get at it for now, so not going to install the kit I bought from Michigan Motorz till I have to pull the engine due to old age or whatever...

    I am not perfect.

For boats I like Deka Marine Master flooded lead acid DP gp 27s, I average 7 seasons on them.

    Water Intrusion Puzzle

well I took my 1988 apart in 2017 due to bad head gaskets, it had been run raw water cooled in salt water about 15 years at that time, I used my De Walt 1/2" impact to get them out, and not one broke, so there's hope! I actually had more trouble with the intake manifold, it was stuck on there...

    Ram down....uggh

I still think if you’d consider used it’s hard to go wrong with the last few years of a Toyota Tundra 5.7. Right now I’m debating getting a used 4Runner vs a Grand Cherokee or Wrangler…. Or, find the last of the Ram 1500s with the Hemi but no Etorque.

    Water Intrusion Puzzle

The manifolds & elbows can be new but the manifold to elbow gasket can still leak water. I’m not sure why yours hold air pressure but may be leaking water. Did you check for flatness with a mechanics straight edge & feeler gauges before installing? Some need to be dressed with a mill bastard...

    Water Intrusion Puzzle

You need to get to the bottom of this right away, you aren't getting water from the intake, you're getting water in the oil even if its not showing on the dipstick yet, that's what the mayo like coating is under your valve covers and that's what's showing up in the breather hoses. Pull the...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Another thing you need to look at if it was used in the ocean are the condition of the exhaust system & intake manifold. Boats such as these used in ocean salt water need to have the exhaust system inspected at regular intervals (usually being replaced @ 6-8 years) and the intake can rot out...

    Ram down....uggh

True the AFM damn near ruined the GM V8 we all knew and loved, and the VVT on the Hemi seemed to cause plenty of problems itself, prior to the introduction of VVT the Hemis didn't really have lifter/cam problems. In fact that's one reason why I kept my old Pre-Eagle 2007 Jeep Hemi, no VVT, no...

    Ram down....uggh

Stellantis really put off their traditional customers who want Hemis in Rams and Chargers/Challengers I predict a big drop in sales, for the traditional motor head customers If I were buying now I'd look at Ford for a pickup or muscle car, at least you can still get a V8. I am not convinced that...

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

With a stroke of the pen the inboard & I/o market was just about killed because certain regulators demanded over priced heat generators in your engine compartment that cost $5,000–$7,000 to replace so no one buys gas inboards or I/os here any more. I was at a Chapparal dealer on the south shore...

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

Yes That’s in anticipation of ever more strict regs. Don’t think they aren’t coming So in the EU for decades they have had diesel sterndrive both Merc & Volvo Given current tech it makes sense if you want some kind of decent range… Mid sized boats

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

That’s a damn sight better than what the greens will let you have in a few years. Ever wonder why so many people put up with sterndrives in the Med Sea salt water? They are all diesels! Because their fuel is so highly taxed!

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

Diesel wouldn't have to run continuously, think of how regular gas/electric hybrids work. Diesel is more efficient in terms of fuel use than gas engines by a lot.

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

The most sensible but not cheapest “green” marine propulsion would be diesel electric which is well proven but too expensive for mass market pleasure boats

    2004 3.0 Exhaust flapper question

Yep that high idle is not good for a dog shift outdrive; I set my Cobra at 600 rpm in gear in the water & it goes in, and out of gear with 2 fingers
