    if you feel the top idle channel welch plug is sucking air a dab of clear nail polish or float airplane dope should stop any air leaks . check for a clean feed route to the top drip chamber

    why not try to run it for a while with some decarb product to loosen rings some like SEAFOAM some don't other products could help before you carck it open. peak inside.. inspect the walls etc... remove cyl head gaskets are cheap visit VINTAGE OUTBAORD.com for precise year gaskets...

    missed that... need new blasses ...:-) "completely removed the rectifier, disconnected the stator, and the Pr/R and Gy wires that connect it to the battery loop. I also consulted an EE to make sure a disconnected stator would not cause a fire."

    just make certain your engine's charging system can handle a LiFePo4 battery because ...for instance they are not recommended on more modern ETECs. They have a BMS ( bbattery management system) and don't react like a conventional lead acid or AGM battery so don't mess up your charging...

    get yourself an antique like this one with a 1 ohm full scale with thumwheel adjustment to dead ) it needs an old 30V battery but I wired mine up with 3x 9v ones in series and it fits inside the case, works perfectly...

    Don't assume problems some meters are not overly accurate trying to read such small values. Especially digital meters you can't set meter and probes to 0 ohms with the side dial before actually measuring the suspects.
