    The old gray line was rated for ethanol.

    Buy black fuel injection hose. The USCG rating is suspect at best, the garbage gray line out there is USCG approved.

    Buy the manual and do the checks. What is compression and does spark jump 1/2" air gap. Are the linkages in good shape?

    Are you sure he did not just ask extra oil in the fuel? Not uncommon to do in a rebuilt motor. Once that is used up you mix the new fuel at 50-1.
