Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

I'm back at the summer house (Cape Cod) for the weekend. The weather looks too good to be working on the boat. So, I'll delay the regulator swap for the time being and we will go boating instead. The bay is supposed to be flat today & tomorrow. :) :thumb: I did want to give the OEM regulator...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

Progress Update: I have the hull cleaned and sanded (below the waterline). There are about 30 - 40 blisters that I opened up in total. so, those will need to be filled with an epoxy and sanded. then I can do the barrier coat and antifouling paint.

SSD Upgrade for my MacBook Pro

All set . . . I think/hope. :) The files from the old HDD laid down on the new SSD using 198 GB +/- vs. the 220GB. so, some improvement there. The swap-out was straight forward and I am up and running on the 'new' computer :) Here are the old (left) and new (right) drives. Here are the...

SSD Upgrade for my MacBook Pro

After a couple years flirting with low disk space and declining performance, I am upgrading my 7 year old MacBook Pro to a solid state drive. The original hard drive is a 250 GB hard drive of 2009 vintage. The new one is a 480 GB SSD. So far, so good . . . I got the OWC upgrade kit from...

water in trim hydraulics, sticky ram

You can isolate the trim cylinders from the pump by connecting the hydraulic lines together. You will want to set the outdrive part way up and support it before you do this. then once the lines are connected, see if the outdrive lowers over the course of hours/days. If it lowers within an...

Avatar showing up as the wrong image

I noticed this morning that my avatar icon comes up as a different image on some, but not all, of the posts. The icon is correct on my profile ( thunderbird emblem) but on some posts shows as a set of engine parts. Database Indexing issue perhaps?

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

HULL BOTTOM UPDATE: I took a couple of hours today to start sanding the hull bottom. At closer inspection, I am glad that I chose to turn the boat over, because it has allowed me to get a more detailed look at the hull. What I had thought were mostly chips in the gelcoat turned out to be some...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

I was out there in 2011 for some skiing . . . actually not much snow then. Saw some snow at the peaks of the Grand Teton mountains yesterday. Among the 4 of us, we have about 4500 digital pics of our 8 day vacation. The regulator parts are here, so next weekend I will install the new regulator...

So, sorry for so many text posts with no pictures . . . Here are a few pictures :) The spark plugs . . . these actually looked OK versus what they looked like a few weeks ago. . . They look a lot better (I think) Here are a few shot of the inspection camera looking at the valves . . ...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

Success !!! :D Definitely the forces of friction were over ruling the force of gravity throughout this process. The straps and the rollers just did not want to move, due to the amount of weight on them. I was able to hoist the rail up high enough to get a boat stand under the stern...

    O'Day Mariner Sailboat Restoration

As the boat continues to turn . . . Almost there, but it sure is reluctant to turn. I think I will need chain hoists positioned over the rails for the return trip. Pulling from the center line of the boat is not all that effective in the later stages of lifting,. If I had a couple...

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

One thing about the fuel rail and injector system on my Mercruisers that I cannot quite understand is how a single rail system on a V8 engine goes together or comes apart :noidea: I can see how a 2 rail system on a V8 connects to the injectors on each side of the engine, since they all line up...

Bravo 3 outer prop is gone along with the shaft. How can this happen?

Just for further understanding, and using AD's picture . . . The two arrows point to the bearing and the shaft flange that hold the inner shaft within the outer shaft. For the inner shaft (outer prop) to come out intact, the flange would have to be worn away.

Closed Cooling System on Port Engine Running Hot(ter)

Looks like the MEFI manual covers the next generation of fuel system. My engine has a single fuel rail with the regulator underneath the rail at the front of the engine. The MEFI does have a lot more detail than the Merc Manual #16. I am wondering if Pleasurecraft has an earlier version of the...
