    Correct----WISECO ----Does not have the ring breakage issue.----Rings do not have that wild wedge shape that leads to side clearance issues.----No idea why OMC persisted with that ring design all these years from 73 to 98 model years on the crossflow.

    Remove the ONE wire ( gray ) from the magneto.----Now test for spark.----Do not apply 12 volts to this magneto.----Any smoke resulting from that will be expensive.----The magneto does not need 12 volts to make spark.

    Very easy to remove water pump.----Then the bearing housing below the water pump.----Inspection / condition of the thrust bearing tells a lot about lower unit condition.---At least in my opinion !

    Don't these motors have a full throttle stop screw and an idle stop screw on the motor ?----Look for them on the arm, starboard side of motor block.

    The controls / console up front just gives a commercial operator more room for fishing.-----Storage of lobster traps or crab pots.----I know of locals that want tillers on big motors ( no console at all ) so they have more room for fish boxes.

    At one time they just used long screws to do that job.-----Some would come loose from vibration.-----I guess the long screws worked better if there actually was wood used in that area.----Not all boats are built the same.----So the screw with a nut was used.
