2000's era tin boat transom repair questions.

Nice work. I thought about only doing the interior as you did but like you stated, there is more than likely going to be corrosion that keeps popping out. I wouldn't want to deal with that down the road. What was the reason for not skinning the outside if you were just doing 1 side?

2000's era tin boat transom repair questions.

I have come across an early 2000 Sylvan hull that I am interested in buying. It needs the transom replaced and I have read a lot of the Lund replacements which are similar to give me an idea of the cost and time involved. I have not found 1 where the outer skin was replaced, only patched with...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Saw that over a week ago. Not paying that price, plus it's an i/o.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

The 2 large bays/inlets near me get size-able chop more often than not. I did some research and everything that I read states that with an 18' you would miss out on a lot of days or get beat up and most suggested 21-22' as being the size to go for. Also the fact that the V5 hull is designed for...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Well I'm pretty sure I am going to wait for a 78/9 V5 hull in 22 ft length. Most I have seen for prior sale are i/o but I want an o/b. From what I have seen on iboats, both have the same hull/transom structure/support. So it looks like an easier conversion than to a smaller hull. I see many of...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

I did some quick research and it was mainly positive, but like anything I'm sure there are also negative. Not even sure how well an older boats consoles would fit to that, so it could be a can of worms.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Those are all good points, on both post's. I saw this and had thoughts of turning into a bow rider with twin consoles from a junk boat. Mainly due to the engine, which on paper looks like a good deal. And figured seeing the floor would be coming up that it wouldn't be too much more work...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Like I stated earlier, I'm just in the early stages of research so I'm not rushing out to buy a boat. All the ducks need to be in a row. I do appreciate all the enthusiasm though :) and appreciate everyones insights. Whilst I can see some benefits of the open bow I'm not sure they are all...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

I have read of some issues as well but also read that if they are maintained properly that they are good. That one certainly looks well maintained. Though there is no trim/tilt from what I've read and I would like to have that feature. I prefer the 72 as well, love all the period correct...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Ha...don't we all. One of them is a holiday as I'm flip flopping on which I would prefer. Plus what size...an 18 but a 20 would be better but wouldn't a 22 be even more better lol.

That all makes sense and I would prefer to know it's been done correctly.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Just asked chatgpt and it stated late 70's was the start of pour in foam.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

I've read enough of the rebuilds and know how projects creep and agree your timeline is more realistic. So do the 80's boats have pour in foam? If so that would add time to any work done, to remove. Did the pour in create more/any corrosion problems? I'm not ready to take either out but will...

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

I now live in NJ. For $5k in Oz you could probably buy a 12ft dingy, these days.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Looking at the whole package makes sense. In the local market here those 2 are at the highest price point but both look in great condition. All the $1-3.5k boats look to have had a very rough life and needing a full resto. Forgot to mention they are both 18.

Is it only a matter of time for leaks?

Hi Guys, I am considering getting a Super Sport. Is it only a matter of time until rivets leak? I have my eye on both a mid 70's and mid 80's SS and they both look good and in original condition. They are both around the $5k mark.I have not reached out to the sellers and I'm not sure how many...
