1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

Ahhh... doubt. The bane of DIY folks everywhere. 🤪 I'd owned a dozen boats before acquiring the Kingfisher and had never restored one. I only did a couple of very minor repairs and improvements on one of those. So, when I jumped in to "Frugally Fix Up" the Kingfisher, I had no idea what...

Hey, I hope you didn't interpret my post as criticism. It wasn't. Just trying to assist. :)

    New bow board

I had to replace mine as well, but I didn't remove the sheet panels. And that was a major mistake. It took me forever to fabricate a replacement which worked. I got it done, but don't recommend that route. I'd say bite the bullet, pull the panels and fab up your new piece. It'll be easier...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I too found a small hole near a rib which perforated the hull of my Chieftain and decided to pull the rib. Under the center of the pulled rib I found another hole. At that point I started pulling ribs until I was well clear of the corrosion area. In my case, it meant "only" pulling 3 ribs...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I'm not sure I understand the question. 🤷‍♂️ But I also need to provide some clarification. I haven't gone through and replaced every 5/32" rivet on the boat with a 3/16" rivet. What I'm doing is replacing the smaller rivets with the larger ones when I find a 5/32" rivet that actually...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

Nice work! I noticed the different size rivets on my Chieftain as well. I decided to upgrade all the 5/32" rivets to 3/16" both for increased strength and to reduce the need for a variety of sizes.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Only a bit more progress today, but we had to run errands this morning. Got the stringers clean. Shiny! Reminded me of this 1980s song. 🤪 :ROFLMAO: Yesterday we received the 1/4" solid rivets in 3/8" and 7/16" length, so I decided to do a quick test in one hole. Worked perfectly...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

The boy and I got out there early this morning, before 0900, but didn't got a lot done. 😏 My young neighbor buddy had moved out west back in the winter and is back in town for a few days to get his house ready for sale. So, we went out to lunch and then visited for most of the day. He's...

Yup. I o ly I used this mini-drill press and it worked well on my Kingfisher. Gonna use it again on my Chieftain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JCIMEA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Finally! Some progress today! Our primary goal today was to get the stern patch ready for installation. It took a long time to figure out how to ensure that the holes for the patch were in the right place on the hull. We ended up deciding to drill holes down the center of the patch...

16 foot 1985 Grumman Aluminum Boat

I'm in the process of dealing with corrosion repair on my Chieftain project. Mostly at the stern. The brazing option doesn't work if you're close to seams which contain sealant, which could heat up and be destroyed or leak out. In other, more open areas, it might work fine. I'm using JB...
