    Bah. Water in bellows.

Just replied above. The shift seal/bushing isn't new, but it is the newer retrofit. Not sure how to test short of just replacing it. Quad ring was in place. Yeah, I don't think it ever got that high since last check. So unsatisfying. I won't have the patience to wait till the end of the...

    Bah. Water in bellows.

Those are indentations from the retaining nut castellations. The perpendicular surface of the ring looks straight and even, though a bit more compressed at 7 maybe. The grease on the outdrive/bellhousing surface didn't look washed at all. Almost easier with a big leak, right? Seems like a lot...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

yes. Adjust fore/aft and see what happens. There isn't a port/sbd adjustment. Check rear mounts to make sure they aren't collapsed. Possible that one side is higher than another, but short of suspending motor with front mounts disconnected, I don't think you can check that. I chased port/sbd...

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

Is there no knock sensor? Have you tried swapping injectors and/or plugs to a different cylinder? Have you eye balled the flow from the injectors or put a noid light on them?

    Bah. Water in bellows.

Just pulled my drive today. Plan was to swap lowers (current one has too much play in the shift shoe). I had a small amount of water in the bellows. Not sure where it's coming from. Didn't have time to investigate much. Bellows are fairly new and good shape as of last summer. U joints and gimbal...

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

Wasn't meant to be snarky...a few people posted the same thing, and I didn't see how that could be the issue.

    Hole in Mercruiser gimbel housing

My trim senders have only occasionally worked over the years. Never got around to actually reconnecting them after the engine swap 3 years ago. Pretty useless IMHO, at best a "while you're in there" job. Not to mention a huge pita on a gen 1

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

How would a loose clamp down bolt lead to that upper wobble with the shaft not having play?

    Building a gantry crane

Mine is still sitting in the driveway almost 3 years later. I'm afraid that if I dismantle it, my motor will immediately blow ;)

Agree with all of the above. Also, *very little* grease is needed on the end. It's more to see where the bar is rubbing than to actually lubricate anything.

    Oil Change Vacuum Merc Adapters

That'll make it *much* slower though. You're reducing the diameter of the tube by quite a bit.

    mercruiser 188 fuel help

I think we're talking about a Ford V8? Op has some trouble shooting to do. As far as turning over slow, you want to clean up your wiring between the starter and battery and the grounds, if that happened before the overheat. Is the engine turning over? Do you have spark? You can get an overheat...

    Crack found in the block

You can do it for much cheaper depending on level of "newness" that you're after. I pulled a long block from a junk yard for $185. An '02 means you can get a late model engine and use all of your existing accessories.

You said "plenty of differences". Please expand on that.

What reason caused the motor stalled

Last time my mercruiser stalled a wire had corroded at the fuel pump relay.

    Alternator wiring issues

Yes, the orange wire itself would be protected in that case. But that's the only benefit I can see. The wiring from the battery to the starter is similarly unprotected.

    Alternator wiring issues

Yes, but what is it protecting aside from the alternator if you have the circuit breaker in line with the only other powered lead? And then why would it matter which end of the wire it was on?
