You could install a negative buss bar in the area, then install the negatives to that. It makes for a cleaner install and easier to service. Abyc don allow more than 3 wires on ant terminal anyway.
Show is a pic of the taken apart mess you got going on. Chokes aren’t to awful hard to set up, just a tad of fine tuning sometimes depending on the weather in your area.

Shower sumps : Some have a switch, some don't. I'm thinking its just for the head itself to pump the water from the lake. Unless it's a manual pump set up.
Sure, leave it on when you are there. Listen for the pump. If it kicks in once in a while when nobody is using it, you have a leak someplace. If it doesn't it's good. Still leave it off when not at the boat.
I just make sure they are charged fully in the fall then unhook the grounds and leave them in the boat. In the spring I hook them up and start the boat up. Usually get 5-6 years before replacement, but when they get that old, they still work, I just replace them for the reason they are getting...
Do not tighten the set screw to tight! Just snug it up and back it off a real tiny bit. If too loose, shifting will be impossible to adjust, to tight and the cable will bind.
I've used the new repair deal on a few, they make them for alphas also. You cut out the face of the upper ring. To me it's much easier and access is good. It comes with everything shown...
