    1994 5L EFI Volvo penta

Thanks to all of you who provided suggestions. Interestingly I pulled my start battery and had it tested. I didn't recharge it, just delivered as removed from my boat. Two shops verified 100% condition. I re-installed the battery and first step pulled the yellow wire off the assist solenoid...

Thank you for the great suggestions. I've checked some of these and will check others. I'm still looking for something that ties the two no crank engines together.

    1994 5L EFI Volvo penta

I pulled my start battery and had it tested. It tested good. It's just damn odd that both starters (engines) don't respond to the key switch. I cannot imagine how but it's like I destroyed both starters by jumping the solenoid. I don't know how safe it is, but I've considered wiring push button...

1st picture shows what has been identified as the assist solenoid. It is on the front of my engine. The second pic shows my starter and the starter solenoid. It's extremely difficult to get a good picture. I don't know if this shows you what you need.

I'll take pics as soon as I can get back to the storage facility. It's not stored at home.

I jumped the assist solenoid #4. I could find three relays clustered close to the assist solenoid. I tried pushing these to reset either no luck. Some have suggested disconnecting the battery completely, perhaps to allow the relay to reset, I don't know. Other input suggested a rely halfway...

Thank you for responding. I now recognize the name. You've responded to other threads I've started, which I appreciate. Simple update is, I'm still boat shopping. We've encountered some radical winter weather which postponed viewing our desired boats. In the meantime, last summer I encountered...

In I'm I've had this boat 25 years, not new. What do you mean missed a few beats?

Today I wanted to perform a compression check on my Ford 5L EFI engines. I pulled all the spark plugs. When I used the key to turn the engines over I got a lot of gas fumes from fuel being injected into the cylinders. To avoid this, I used a push button remote switch with alligator clips to jump...

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

No offense taken. If I thought I had all the answers, I wouldn't ask questions. I think you agree that I cannot even get a complete survey without a sea trial.

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

Great information. Mainly I needed to know that what I laid out is not standard practice. I haven't purchased a boat it 26 years. I've owned three boats and all were private sellers, no broker involved.

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

That is exactly how I will do it. I wrote a similar offer on another boat, in that case I lost out to a cash offer, no contingencies. You cannot compete with that unless money doesn't matter. I just wanted opinions on what the broker offered. I was just flabbergasted.

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

That's exactly how I feel. Two different brokers, on two different boats, suggested buying the boat after viewing and survey, then purchase with 10% of purchase held in escrow until after sea trial. BUT, it's my boat weather the sea trial is good or bad and apparently we negotiate the ten...

I can see the boat now. Before it I can see the boat. It is in heated storage.

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

Thank you for your response. I should have been more clear. They will let me see it and survey it (at my expense of course). But they won't agree to taking it off the market unless I buy it. I want a deal contingent on mechanical and structural survey and sea trial. I pay 10% down, sign a...

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

We are going to make an offer on a boat. The boat is currently in heated storage and inaccessible for three months. The broker wants me to make an offer which is contingent on the boat passing mechanical and structural survey, a step I agree with. In the offer I agree to purchase boat if it...

    Survey

My wife asked me to postpone the search until after the holidays. We will resume the search shortly after first of the year. I will update this thread as soon as things progress. I've gotten a lot of valuable information. Thank you all.
