    Look real, I mean really, really close at your battery cables. Try to bend the cab;e ends enough to see under the insulation jacket on both Pos and Neg ends. Wouldn't be the first time that a cable looks great but under the jacket it's corroded

    As you found the amount the cable can be moved unconnected has no direct bearing on how much it will move when connected. The throttle control is the limiting factor

    I believe your mixing lift points with hold points The eyelet is there to lift and support the drive to remove and replace. The eyelet is not there to hold the drive up during transport. Using a steel hook to hold the drive up puts much more load on it than that would ever be engineered to do...

    Anything is possible but both idling shouldn't cause one to die. If electrical connections are bad, maybe Alternator outputs the same when running, should be around 14V+

    You have fuel at the carb so it's not the pump Something is getting hot. Are the points and condenser new?
