    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Ok, so I dressed the driveshaft with some emery cloth, installed a new water pump (the entire kit, including a new pump housing and the yellow seal carrier that sits below the pump). I reassembled everything per the manual. My drive is not holding pressure. I can put it at 9-10 psi and after...

Pretty tough to make any money flipping really old boats, but good luck!

    SEI Sterndrives

I agree. In contrast, most of what I've seen here is pretty positive toward SEI drives.

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

I don’t know if these pics help at all, but this is what the upper seals look like.

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

If you spend any time on car or truck forums, you'll quickly realize that there is never any consensus on how often to change oil, which type of oil should be used, and whether there is an advantage to synthetic vs. dino vs. a blend. I personally think it makes the most sense to follow whatever...

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Some more questions... Is this something that needs to be corrected before using the boat this season? How would I evaluate whether the seals are bad enough that immediate replacement is needed? In looking at the service manual for the Gen 2 (#14, section 3A), it looks like changing the seals...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

It‘s cured! Until two days after you launch... at least that’s how it always works for me.

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Hi all, I am changing my impeller and water pump, and after I split the drive and cleaned up everything, I noticed that there is some wear on my driveshaft just below the splines (see pic below). I can feel the grooves when I run my fingernail over them. I do not believe it was there the last...

How do you guys mix Gas

We boat in some really pristine waters in Northern Ontario and I support efforts to move to cleaner burning 4-stroke motors. (Electric motors would be great, but we are totally off the grid, so I’m not sure how that would work.) We have both an older (1974?) Johnson 2-stroke 9.9 and a new...

How to actually BOOK a flight online?

I’ve given up on third-party apps or websites for booking flights or lodging. Too many times I’ve had problems with the reservation, and the hotel or airline always dishes it off to the third-party to deal with. I might use a third-party app to figure out flights, but I will do the actual...

How do you guys mix Gas

If you’re concerned about it mixing completely in the tank, just mix whatever quantity of oil you need with a quart or two of gas, then pour that mix in the larger tank and gas up.

    trim tabs or not?

My Nautica smart tabs do a lot of nice things (reduce chine walking, allow boat to stay on plane at slower speeds, reduce porpoising), but they really don't do much for the wander. Unless I'm in a narrow channel at no-wake speed, I don't worry about it and I just let the boat wander.

OK to Delay Recommissioning One Year?

I had reconstructive surgery on a joint in my thumb a couple years ago and I also was unable to change the oil and gear lube that one time. Failing to change it once is not going to ruin anything. Skipping your oil/lube change every year or two would cause more problems over the long run, of course.

Thoughts on potential automated pitch calling in MLB

Bring on the robo-umps for pitch calling! The genie is out of the bottle... everyone watching a broadcast now can see whether a pitch is a ball or a strike, and it reveals exactly how inconsistent and inaccurate umps can be. There are few things that I find more aggravating than watching a close...

OK to Delay Recommissioning One Year?

Sorry to hear about your surgeries; that really stinks, especially after you finally got your new boat! I wouldn't worry a bit about letting it sit a year. Hope all goes well for you and your surgeries are successful!

Upgrade from small swim platform to large?

If the donor boat is similar to yours, I would absolutely go for it. The extra real estate on the stern is super handy. The only hiccup could be due to how/where the platform is attached and what sort of access you have to those spots inside the boat. You should be able to figure that out...

That's sometimes how I reverse sear steaks that have been cooked sous vide. A grill on top of a charcoal chimney can produce an incredible sear!
