    Small block Chevrolets, Fords and Mopars are probably the best designed engines for long life and easy of repair, ever. I also love the AMC designed 4.0 liter six in older Jeeps, I have had one of those for 27 years....

    with the old style adjustable you have to do the zero lash and either 3/4ths or 1 turn depending on whose spec you are using.

    Alldodge good point on the self locking nuts. All of those should be replaced for the adjustment to hold.

    Remember the engine serial # is at the front of the block the casting # is at the rear. It’s also possible that someone put an earlier set of heads on that engine.
