Ran an 19' Grady White state patrol boat with a 175 Yamaha for 8 years as the next to last boat before I retired. Never gave us a lick of problems. Right before it was replaced I did notice some corroding of the trim cylinder rods but would still gone another couple of years before they...
Don't know how far along you are but I would add some more bracing to the hull before I started removing any structure from the boat. They can get a little floppy and would hate to see the cap not fit back on when the time comes. Take a look in the restoration forum here and see how others...
No reason not to. The preparation is the most important part just as it is in painting cars. Plenty of info on the internet about using auto paint on fiberglass boats.
I remember those days well. My dad used to by 30w Gulf oil by the case. When we would go up to Canada he would always remind me to add one quart to 4 gallons instead of the US 5 gallons. I still have a 1948 Elgin that we used as a kicker that we ran for forty years with only an few carb...
How badly was the prop damaged or did the lower unit take the full impact? You said it looks fine from the outside but did you check where the upper part of the intermediate unit bolts to the motor?
Using rounded off numbers to slide rule accuracy it cost about twice as much to heat water with electricity at 15 cents a KWH than with oil at 3.00 dollars a gallon assuming 85% boiler efficiency. Sounds like a simple choice but you have to figure in if you live in a moderate climate and only...
Should work as it is since your Merc is a 12 pulse. Here is a listing on what the output is for various motors. https://fariabeede.com/site_manuals/IS0012_A.pdf
No. The jumper bar between b and (12 or 4) is to set the number of pulses expected from the alternator. the two in the top-center are trigger (usually marked with a S for signal) and positive power usually sent from the ignition key switch. The G is negative from the battery. The power from...
Looks to me like the jumper is from b to 12 pole, it would be switched over for a 4 pole. That leave the two in the top center for +12v and the other for signal. Hook the G to -12v and touch one of the top two to +12v. If the needle jumps to zero that is the power. If not try the other. The...
The pink small wire goes to the fuel gauge. The sender housing has a black ground. If you trace the wires the other black one my go to the filler fitting on the hull to dissipate a possible static charge spark during filling. If they were clean tight connections I doubt they were responsible...
I know nothing about your motor but if I had one of my diesels trucks acting like that I would say either it is burning soft coal for fuel or it is a bad injector.
Last one I replaced was on a 175 a few years ago. Fairly simple to remove since it was inside my shop and I was able to put a strap on the motor from a rafter to tilt it up out of the way to remove the t/t unit.
If you go to Tohatsu's web site you can enter your model and serial number and they will email you back withing a day telling you exactly when it was built.
We had our first today here in the center of Pennsylvania. My wife had been looking for them for a couple of days now and marks the calendar every year when she expects them and they were right in the week she had marked.
It looks like one of the typical "bass boats" from the early 1970's when lots of small boat makers tried to get into the business. If it was built after late 1972 it should have a Hull Identification Number on the transom that will show the builder and year. Many companies copied other makers...
