Correct ventilation in engine compartment of runabout

unless you spend lots of time trying to seal off the bilge, it will pull air from the gunwales no mater what you put in front of them.

    1988 Rogue 2420

this is what you get when you use used heads previously run in salt water and you try to add a screen to keep the HX from fouling. this is from one 4 hour run. the heads were chemically cleaned with oxalic acid, mechanically cleaned with a section of steel cable and a drill motor and then...

Hey @aspeck , I flagged the stickies in the DIY/restoration forum. the links do not go to their intended target. If we need to get @colonel_sanders some pizza and coffee, let us know, we will be glad to chip in.

Some questions about windshield and seat post

the windshield doesnt mate up because either the stringers are probably rotten and the deck is starting to sag or the window frame was bent. the fact that you bought a 31 year old boat from a salvage yard, dont expect anything less than a full-on restoratoin project. the seat base probably...

agree that there is no need to turn the blower off. However most of the air is coming in from under the gunwales and everywhere else there is an open are to the outside. the benefit of a blower is to extract the fuel vapors from the bottom of the bilge and expell prior to start.

just remember, the blower only moves about 100 CFM before plumbing. the motor is the most effective air pump, and even a small 3 liter will move over 200 CFM. while not needed, I keep the vent motor running when the ignition is on out of habit.

yes, vortec heads are good enough unless you want to go away from a budget. much better heads on the market than the Edelbrock heads. the stock iron vortec heads with a polished combustion chamber, mild throat work will flow great and not have all the detriments of aluminum heads (such as...

OMC 2.5L paired with OMC Sterndrive 800 Outdrive

remember, if you are looking to flip boats, stay with boats newer than 10 years. the issue with a 35 year old OMC with the wrong drive on it is it will cost you $3000 to fix the hull and you still have a boat with a 35 year old OMC with the wrong drive. a good working OMC drive is only...

depends on what you need. a complete bobtail, a short block, a long block? minor rebuild? major overhaul? you didnt wear the motor out because that would take putting well over 250 hours a year on it. lets start with what the problem is and go from there?

block in heads are the same, however the cam is marine specific, the circulating pump is marine specific and the fuel system and ignition is marine specific along with the accessories on the front. marine 8.1 oil pan is a full-sump unit vs the automotive rear sump. are you buying a complete...

to get 400-450 hp, your RPM on the top end will be over 5500. define budget? you have a cast crank, not going to survive 450hp too long, however would live at 400hp. ditch the rods, SCAT forged rods are cheaper than re-conditioning the factory cast rods. check prices on regrinding your crank...

Mercruiser 140 head retorque proper technique

per the felpro head gasket instructions https://drivcat.com/livedocs/CI1963.pdf if you were going to re-torque (primarily for extreme use such as racing), you should have done it after the first time it ran and then cooled down however I have only ever done an initial torque and run on felpro...
