    2001 sx dp-s hard to find neutral

    Take off the shroud and disconnect the linkage. Try moving the shift mechanism by hand, Neutral should be a solid stop between forward and reverse. Put shifter in the neutral position and re-adjust the linkage to fit the drives neutral setting. Hopefully that helps.

    FWD Drive Oil Leak

    While not familiar with the forward drive, I would suspect based on what you state that the O rings on the drain screw needs replaced. I would try that first before tearing too far into it. Might be a cheap fix.

    I`ve used it for several years and have had no problems so far. I live in central Indiana so it can get pretty cold at times.

    Check ebay. I bought my pressure and vacuum tester there. Used but still functional and much cheaper than buying new.

    I found my pressure and vacuum testers on ebay used, but they still work well and were significantly cheaper than buying new.

    Possibly a propeller shaft seal going bad. You need to pressure and vacuum test on the unit to see exactly where the leak is coming from.

    Prop pitch can play into engine not getting to full RPM`s. Might consider looking there before tearing into engine.

    It`s not advisable to run the engine with the drive in the up position. Very hard on the U joints.

    When you can pressure test the casing to see if there is an air leak from that area or any seals. If not, you should be ok. Just be ginger when tightening that nut.

    I`ve used Rotella T6 and Mobil 1. I would try to run full synthetic given a choice but I would not get hung up on "marine " specific oils.

    I`ve been told that Mobil 1 has limited slip additives. I believe VP suggests non limited slip additives because of the cone clutch. I run Amsoil gear oil as it has water absorbing abilities.

    When I replaced my 5.7 gxi, I went with a new Michigan Motorz long block. I transferred over my intake and exhaust, PS pump, alternator and water pump. I have ran it now for about six years and could not be happier. Might give their website a look.

    Try coating the threads with a liberal amount of Tripple Guard grease. It may just give you the seal you need.

    Your gear oil need to NOT to have limited slip additives. Many automotive gear oils do, you need to find one that does not. I use Amsoil marine gear oil.

    In addition to what you have mentioned, I would prime the oiling system by cranking the motor by over for a bit with the ignition(spark) killed to get some new oil into the passages and on the bearings.

    Aftermarket fuel pump recommendations

    I bought a back up pump off of Amazon and used it while I rebuilt my OEM. I can't remember what brand it was but it worked fine while I used it. Look for a brand that has the best reviews I`d say.
