    Valve stem seals shouldn't do it. Didn't you replace all of the gaskets already? How about intake/exhaust manifold and risers? A compression test would tell you if something went really wrong with your rebuild, but best bang for the buck would probably be to pressure test the coolant system.

    Also got nervous about leaving that intake manifold drain in there. Pulled it again, and once again didn't get a drop of water out. There was a lot of space behind the drain; I can't imagine it holding enough water in there to crack anything. I think I leave it in next year.

    Hmm, I'll have to check the old block to see if that fitting is there. Almost positive that I moved the whole drain over, which had the petcock but no 90' bend. Old block had the direct drive starter.

    Why not just a new crank? I can't imagine these engines were balanced after assembly, were they? BTW, is that a break at the main or rod bearing?

    Might be more issue to trim out, but no way I'd trust screws to hold my roof up. You need support to keep the posts from shifting laterally. Also almost certainly against code. Can you get to the headers running in the roof? Preference would be to have them sit in a bracket on top of the posts...

    Whoops. Everyone forgot that this is a 170. The 12v coil voltage is supplied by the slave solenoid, not directly by the starter.

    Wondering if something is intermittently shorting to ground the coil neg. Open the points and check for continuity to ground from the coil neg.
