    68 Offshore restoration

We used 5200 on every rivet and only cleaned with acetone before shoving a new rivet in. Haven't had a leaky rivet thus far.... knock on wood. SHSU

    68 Offshore restoration

Besides the ease of maintenance, why screws vs rivets? Screws have a tendency to back out on the thin aluminum and the secured deck helps with the structural integrity. SHSU

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Steel 2000, from Fasco? I used the steelflex on mine and very happy. Opted not to use the superslick as I decided to use starboard on my bunks. It is slick enough as is and will admit I have almost dropped the boat on the ramp because of it. SHSU

    68 Offshore restoration

I think most do it because that is what factory did. It allows plenty of room to access bilge pump, pump auto switch, livewell intakes, and easy view if water is in bilge. I created a piece that I could put in the hole to cover it, but in the end did not use. I am paranoid about water in the...

    68 Offshore restoration

Interesting, I have a SS16 that we take out 2-3 miles from shore when we run to the tip of the jetty off Galveston in the Gulf of Mexico. We do have to pick our days, but does the job. As for your project, I would have to defer to others, but believe the consensus is to add the support bracket...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I like the idea of wood look, just not sure on it as a floor. I saw you mention vinyl, so guessing going to do something with texture to prevent slipping when wet. SHSU

I believe the shelf is standard on the sides. I also added an oval below the shelf for extra storage. I figured out afterwards how useless it is. Guess that is why it was filled foam from factory. SHSU

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I hear you on the tank, I mulled over that one for a long time. Never found one that would work under the current floor design. Hence the custom route and it cost ~$500 to have it fabricated. Non custom route, think @Moserkr made his front seating area a casting deck. That allowed him to...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I tried to make a bunch of storage, but realize now how fruitless it was. The boat isn't big enough to make permanent storage for most of the stuff I want to take out. So now its just what we will need for the day. I use varying size bins to store my big anchors and rope in if we go fishing...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I see two options, find a welder willing to fill the holes or use a thin sheet of aluminum and 5200 with a couple solid rivets. The strake doesn't need to be perfectly flat on the hull as its only there for protection. Just my 2 cents. SHSU

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Congrats on the Splash!!!! LOL, we all say we will never try another project, but once we are done we all want another one. One day I may be able to get a 20-24 project boat, but need a bigger garage. SHSU

JB weld a thing piece from the bottom side. Then you can use JB weld or similar to fare it level. Or in my case, I just covered it with Nautolex +1 to this, only need to do seams and tails. SHSU
