    If not reversed at the coils the top plug wire should have a crimped band next to the boot markes TOP. 25902D son of RD models.. easy to service . you will have to check your GC oil for water intrusion. the impeller should be replaced

    plug wires going to the correct plugs ?? ... try switching them post mdl # old style magneto... easy to service. did you pull the flywheel to check for bad coils. did you service all the electricals 1969 condensers may be RIP....if never replaced

    Johnson Outboard 9.5 1973 9R73B can hardly pull start with spark plugs in but with plugs removed pulls very easy

    as per leroy's the carb on these must be real clean.... as you progress to a happy ending... you may want to check timing, electricals etc.... lots of good utubes available for you . here is one on timing and a note adjuting the cam follower...

    I can't see deep creep locking up things if not the GC.... something serious (internal) may have happenned ??? could the FW be snagging on a coil ?? pull it see if you can turn the crankshaft with just the nut on

    the engine looks pretty good ... no major discoloration. Don't know if you had cleaned it but that thermostat housing looks darn clean(no deposits) Engine performance may be just electricals or carb has indicated by oldbaot1. have you replaced the condensers at all ? touched up the...

    if you pulled the drive shaft and saw oil "down the hole" I would say that it was expected. Finding no loil "down the hole" would have been a dry GC :-(

    the 9.5 is a somewhat low compression engine (See Leroy's) http://www.leeroysramblings.com/OMC_9.5.htm stop using the pull cord to much because you will strip that plastic gear on the starter $$ never jerk start it always engage the starter gear first and pull normally find out...

    Remove Gas Plug at Carburator, Gas Tank leak, Water Pump replacement.

    fuel pump is a simple 2 bolt affair...remove and install new one if the old one is bad. OEM pumps are $100+ Amazon China pumps $25 some have had success some not. I have used several with no problems. Pump kits are available http://www.leeroysramblings.com/Rebuilding_fuelpump.htm...

    just keep pumping the bulb and if it runs OK the fuel pump is likely bad ... but check cooling has uggested ... heat will kill it !

    could is 10 have been rebranded to 9.9hp with a stencil just to stay under registration obligation for the boat ? but yes it is a 10hp around my area 10hp and up needs one to register his boat. Merc 9.8 or turtles are very popular

    1993 40hp Johnson Starts for about 60 seconds and shuts off

    time to focus on fuel issues. looks like it can run a few initial drops of fuel then runs short (carb job should help) otherwise the ignition is flaky...try coolant spray on ignion parts while runs and if it keep running longer the coolled part is suspect.
