i've just finished a re-seal job on a 400 hydromechanical stringer drive. I do not know if this is normal, but the lower gearcase makes a strange (whining? sounds indeed like a fishing rod mechanisme that is pulled out fast) noise when running. It think it is like the pinion gear...
