I've recently replaced the alternator on a 3.0L BAR marine engine. Previous to that the belt was fine but the alternator burned out so I went to the shop and got a new one.
I installed it and it seemed ok until I realized that the belt is rubbing more near the bow side of the alternator...

Every do it yourself list are listing that the lower gear oil needs changing prior to winter but none are mentionning the upper gear oil on the sterndrive. Does it needs to be changed also or is there no risk involved?

I have a 3.0L that is breaking the nose on it's starter. Normally starts fine and then once in a while it sounds like it kicks back and breaks the starter nose housing. I cannot do the timing as I cannot find any mark on the pulley, the timing marks on the engine are there but...
