I want to place a metal patch on a Zinc-Coated steel gasoline tank opening.

Around here propane is harder to get than gasoline. Analysis shows that 20# of propane and 5 gal gasoline power the generator for about the same time and cost. A much cheaper alternative is using natural gas as a fuel. Most gasoline generators can be easily converted to natural gas or...

How long is the skeg on a mariner 30/40

You could put 2 straight edges on the undamaged parts of the skeg, and see for yourself the length and shape.

    Mercury 135 not running

It is very easy to check the timing. The check will give peace of mind, no?

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

It is more useful to add a bit of garlic and onion powder and some oil to the vinegar and salt mix and pour it on your salad.

    1972 80 Hp Mercury enhine

I wrapped my hydraulic lines with electrical tape. It looked OK and lasted many years.

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

You realize that vinegar and salt mixed together is not HCL, right? There are 10K perpetual motion machines on the internet as well. Those are crap as well.

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

Gee, I am not sure how to fill and seal the cooling system of an outboard. I doubt vinegar will do anything. What is the purpose of the salt?

I want to place a metal patch on a Zinc-Coated steel gasoline tank opening.

Top of tank right? Standard fuel tank gauge senders are sealed with rubber gaskets and self tapping screws. Tanks are vented, so no pressure build up is expected.

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

I pumped this stuff thru my motor for 4 hours. I am not sure it made a difference. Any other opinions?

    ETEC Emm Issue

I saw a video of a guy working on a FICHT, which is the father of your motor. It has 4 fuses in a plug, attached to a cable. The fuses were under a cover, that looked like a cable terminator. You might look for such a thing, if you did not find 4 fuses together.

Does that e-Tec have any fuses?

1963 Starcraft Jupiter 16ft Windshield Brackets

My '62 Crestliner had small U shaped brackets to hold the very bottom back edge of the windshield to the deck. Is that what you are looking for?

Shift rod position after impeller change

The mechanic may be correct. The shift cable could have been set (by the mechanic) just a bit wrong. Set the control to neutral. Disconnect the shift cable at the motor. Now move the shift lever until centered in the neutral position. Adjust the shift cable to match the shift lever and...

    Jet Drive Outboard Motor Debris

Gee, don't jet drives pull most of the water straight up from the bottom? I would not expect the keel to affect that. I would expect the keel to affect a prop drive, as the prop pulls water from under the hull.

    1987 Mercury 150 xr2 Blackmax Newbie Help

Gee, the impeller may be good, the carbs may be clean and the timing may be right. However, the motor setting for any length of time often causes or worsens the condition of the carbs and impeller. Any of those not working or not set correctly can ruin the motor.

    Converting jet to prop

You might check the Sterndrive Engineering (SEI) website. Your motor is new enough, I would think, to buy a new gearcase from them.

    1987 Mercury 150 xr2 Blackmax Newbie Help

Gee, if it were me, I would change the gear oil, replace the impeller, wearplate and two gaskets, clean the carbs and check the ign timing.

    Mercury 1982 70hp Bluestripe Foot/Gear case

Crowleymarine will have the parts list for your motor. You should be able to get the part number for the gearcase. Now, whether you can find a used gearcase for your motor is a different subject. Alternatively, you could try a prop with 20% more pitch.

Am I hurting things by not running WOT?

You want to prop your boat so it will run at max recommended RPM at WOT. That gives keeps you in the motors powerband properly. Lugging the motor is bad on several levels. Once you have that, pick a speed that you like and run it. As for best economy, solidly on plane and trimmed near max...
