DPS-A shifted but had no throttle

2007 5.0 GXi-G with DPS-A outdrive shifted into gear as normal but the throttle would not respond. Did it twice in a row. Once when trying to throttle up the engine sputtered and died. Then it started working fine. Didn't even turn the engine off. Any ideas as to where to start looking?

New to me Deck Boat - Question: Can I run a sink/faucet and a washdown off one pump?

The tank was obviously installed during manufacturing and is not totally accessible for photographing. It is below deck resting on the hull. There is access to the pump through the engine compartment and the front can be seen when the bar cabinet is removed. A picture of those sections probably...

Help me 'divine' the core/structure materials on a swim deck

The factory-installed extended swim deck on my boat (2007 Azure AZ220 Sportdeck) suffers from water incursion and presumably has since new. The swim deck is physically connected to the boat hull with bolts. I discovered the water incursion when drilling holes for a pedestal base for a grill. I...

Concentrated Clorox - a cautionary tale

I finished spring commissioning last week with fresh water tank sanitizing. Or so I thought. This week, for whatever reason, I read the back label of the bottle of "Concentrated Clorox Splash-less Regular Bleach" that I used. It says, among other things, "Not for sanitization or disinfection...

    VolvoPenta discontinuing 'D' series Duo-Prop

As seen on a listing at 'that' auction site, "VOLVO HAS DISCONTINUED PRODUCTION OF THE "D" SERIES" duo prop. It appears to be replaced by the "I" series. I suppose if you need a replacement on either the front or rear of a "D" series, this could be a good thing (discontinued item pricing) or a...

Threaded quick chain link vs. bow (anchor) shackle

Anybody got any thought on the relative advantages/disadvantages in using a threaded quick link (see picture) or a bow shackle (see picture) to connect an anchor chain to the anchor. Most every anchor rigging I see pictures of uses a bow shackle but in my research I find that a similar 1/4" rod...

DPS-A: Water in gear lube, pressure test OK. What next?

Changed gear lube on my 2007 DPS-A after apx. 30 hours use as part of winter lay-up. The lube color left no doubt of water intrusion. (Last two lube changes showed no visible evidence of water.) Sent a sample to the lab for verification. While the sample was in transit/process I did a...

    Need help w/ 97 - 99 Larson 236 LXI windshield measurements

Trying to determine a couple of measurements for the windshield of a 1997 to 1999 Larson 236 LXI windshield. The manufacture of my boat (Azure by Bennington) did not offer a convertible top as an option (on top of it the Azure line was discontinued in 2009) and I would like to add one. I have...

Where to look for this obvious electrical problem

2007 VP 5.0 GXi-G: Boat was having no problems when taken out of the water last Saturday. Between then and now I 'sanitized' the fresh water system by keeping it pressurized for about three hours then flushing, using the cranking battery. Afterwards, I put the battery on a 2A charger for 8...

Adjustable wing on slalom ski fin

Is the adjustable wing on a slalom ski fin supposed to tighten down so as to be immobile or should it be tight but adjustable without loosening the screws that hold it on?

    Change disc calipers as maintenance?

After reading many threads on the subject of malfunctioning disc calipers and recently experiencing it personally, I can't help but wonder if changing disc calipers on a boat trailer every five years or so is simply a good maintenance practice. The OEM calipers on my trailer (UFP...

Does my prop need professional attention

A strike to a submerged object last last year took out several chunks on my skeg and put three small dents on one blade of my stainless prop (rear prop of VP F5 DPS). I have filed the leading and trailing edges of the blade until they are smooth to the feel but the edge itself still has three...

    Unusual VP tilt/trim problem

It appears as though the tilt/trim on my 2007 VP 5.0 GXi-G DP-SA does not work when the ambient temperatures are in the 50's but does work when the temps are in the 70's. It has done this two days in a row. If it is cold (in the 50's) the tilt/trim will not work even when hotwired directly to...

Any benefits to sealing pressure treated bunks?

Installing new pressure treated bunks on trailer and covering with glide wraps as shown on the attached picture. (Using SS lag screws, isolating the bunk from the mount with polypropylene sheeting and isolating the SS lag from the mount with fiber washers.) In the vein of (even more) overkill...

VolvoPenta DPS (Duo Prop) prop nut durability

Anybody got an idea on how many on-off cycles the nylon/poly (whatever they are) propeller locknuts on the VP DPS system will last? As a frequent propeller changer and self-lube changer, I wonder if these are something that should be changed as routine maintenance or just wait until they wear...

How important is spark plug gap?

I just replaced the factory installed spark plugs on my [acquired this year] 2007 Volvo 5.0 GXi for the first time. I used the OEM ACDelco 41-993 plugs. The VP owner's manual specs a .060" gap. The plugs that came out of the engine had a gap of .050". There was no noticeable carbon build-up...

Question re plumbing on Azure AZ220

Just started 'winterizing' my 2007 AZ220 and while running the faucets to fill the lines after putting pink anti-freeze in the freshwater system I noticed that the drain from the sink in the head emptied into the bilge and not overboard like (I'm pretty sure) the bar sink does. Is this the...
