1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly had a cracked carburetor float

As long as your getting full open throttle at the carbs / ignition timing with the throttle / shift lever in the full throttle position Id be inclined to leave it be , I cant see how a new cable will help unless you can see a fault in the old one .

    Timing is retarded ;-)

At the risk of sounding like a broken record Mercury dont make ecu's any more than they make spark plugs or bearings . A LOT of the spares branded as oem parts are out sourced from all over the place One could argue the seeing as how the motor itself is out sourced even genuine mercruiser...

    Trailer bleeding brakes. Part 2

You can stop one of them land yachts in 2 feet ?:D Good brakes , how bout 100hp , 185kg ( that 407 pounds for all you imperial Americans ) wet and TWO 320mm discs with 4 pot calipers . Thats more brakes than most 2 ton cars have . ( so how come you rode that motorbike into the back of a...

    Timing is retarded ;-)

See post #4 :). After seeing motors ( mostly motorbikes and quads ) with cam timing (up to 8 deg )and ignition ( about the same ) off spec from brand new it dont seem so bad ...Have they changed the spec ,? is there a service bulletin or manual update ?.... Does the motor go OK ? if so either...

Do I replace the core plugs when engine is out?

5.7l gotta be a small block chev ( I know sbc's well ) . How hard do you wanna go ? , I mean with the pan off why not chuck an oil pump and set of crank bearings and seals ,cam chain and sprockets ( specially if it has the fibre cam sprocket ) guide seals bla bla bla , for no better...

    Trailer bleeding brakes. Part 2

Another thing that can cause issues , gotta admit I have not seen this on a braked trailer but it goes with the above ESGWheel info . When the brake is applied the master cylinder piston must advance far enough to close the port to the fluid reservoir before any pressure is applied to the...

1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly had a cracked carburetor float

Well the weber had a black fine open cell foam inside , (looks just like yours ) that did soak up fuel , coz thats how I twigged . I had carb parts all over the place and was having a wee tidy up and I picked up the float and thought it felt heavier than I expected , and when I squeezed it...

    Trailer bleeding brakes. Part 2

My wife is an expert assistant when it comes to bleeding brakes. Them vacuum bleeders are ok as long as all the pipework is favourable , hardly ever is . The biggest advantage of the foot on the pedal bleeding is that any air bubbles are compressed and when the bleed nipple is cracked the...

1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly had a cracked carburetor float

Those floats can ingest fuel if they are cracked , this causes them to not float so well ( or at all ) , the fuel level in the bowl gets to high and the motor will run rich , which maybe why it was stalling at idle . 2 strokes can handle a bit much fuel at higher throttle settings so it may...

Estate sale lot of 18 - 25hp motors - Compression gauge variables.

Yeah , the last Jonnie I had used a con rod with a removable cap anyhow with the removable cap the rod and piston can be disconnected from the crank and pushed out the top but with proper 2 stroke motors 😆 the rods are one piece and the crank components are pressed together and the whole...

Are you able to remove the intake side of the crank case ? Dunno about your motor but some the crank assy inc pistons etc is fitted up thru the base of the cylinders This is my Tohatsu M18d , as you can see in the last pic there is nothing to stop you pounding the 5hit out of the...

Yamaha 50 hp 2 stroke prop seal depth

If you cant feel them Id give the shaft a bit of a polish with some 400 carborundum paper and call it done . Some of the grooves in the wm stainless shaft could be .25mm deep and would spoil a new ( triple lip +wiper ) seal quickly . Wm has water ( and mud ) on one side and air on the...

Yamaha 50 hp 2 stroke prop seal depth

Ideally you should probly refit them as per factory..... but sometimes if the shaft has wear grooves where the seal lips have been bearing on the shaft it is possible to move the seal so the lips are bearing on unworn shaft thus getting another life out of the shaft . We used to do this on...
