    lower unit not in gear

    I replaced the water impeller, had the boat in forward, and the lower unit slipped out of gear, now the prop spins freely. I read that I need to rotate the driveshaft clockwise when looking down at it, but it is not doing the trick. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    replace impeller

    I replaced the impeller and put the lower unit back on with considerate resistance. Now when I go from neutral to reverse or forward there is some clanking until it is seated then smooth. Is this going to ruin my gears or is some of this ok? I am a first year boat owner. The motor is a 1985...
