    Crysler 85 hp, 70's erea starter?????

    The stater will not turn fast enough to crank the engine, I tryed new Batteries but it will not turn over. The question is (A.) can the starter go bad and still turn and (B) how much play in the starter should there be. I assume that if the motor had gone bad it would be the brushes and not turn...

    fuel starved merc. 5.7

    I have a 1990 merc. 5.7 w/a 4 barrel carb.<br />The problem is when I power up and the 4 barrel kicks in, the engine wants to stall out but doesn't. The motor runs fine up to about 3500 rpms and ideals just great. It back fired once while trying to power up. I replace the fuel/water seperator...
