    Leak in boat?

    I'm trying to find where water could be leaking in boat from, thought it was transom boot bought new one and replaced, and checked shift cable. only problem i see is where jell coat is worm away at bottom of boat at v. could water seep through fiberglass? any other places to look? 1981...

    OMC overstroke switch?

    I have a 1981 OMC 3.8 there is a overstroke switch on the shift converter, when i depress the button on it, it does nothing while engine is running, should this switch stall engine?......................... interrupter switch causes slight engine stall which is believe is correct for shifting...

    i have a 1981 3.8 OMC 800 stringer i'm replacing the seals & gaskets on. the plug that covers the worm gear above tilt clutch wont come out, any suggestions? sprayed with penetrating oil last night also tried tapping with brass hammer?

    1981 OMC points installation?

    I pulled out some points on an OMC 3.8 v-6 and not sure how they go back in now. they are getting ground out and boat wont start. voltage drops to 4.5 volts at pos side of coil when connect wire. I inclulded a couple of pictures maybe someone can tell me what i'm doing wrong?

    Need help removing broken brass fitting?

    I'm trying to remove a brass fitting that broke in engine block for oil pressures sending unit. Any suggestions or tips? used a screw extractor but still frozen tight would not budge. if it matters it a 1981 omc v-6

    OMC 3.8 timing marks?

    can someone with a OMC 3.8 tell me the range of the timing on tab mine is too rusty to tell was trying to check timing yesterday i'm thinking it should go form 4atdc to 12btdc or even picture would help engine is a 1981.

    Any OMC 3.8 owners?

    If anyone has a OMC 3.8 v-6 can you tell me what size prop your running? trying to get an idea what works. boat is a 1981 beachcraft 17ft just used for fishing loaded with no more than 2 people. currently has a 15X17 prop does about 35mph on speedo no gps to check if correct.

    Omc throttle control?

    Does anyone have a OMC throttle control similar to this one pictured? I know it locks out of reverse but should you need to depress lock out button to throttle forward? It goes about 1/3 forward without depressing button and full forward when depressed.

    OMC upper housing screws?

    I have a 1981 OMC upper housing. there are 6 phillips head screws that hold down the upper gear cover. How do you remove them. I tried a impact driver but they're still tight. any suggestions?

    How do i get the coupler out on a 1984 OMC v-6 upper drive unit I got part out pictured below. Other part it goes into is lightly damaged also. new water pump shaft would probably work but prefer to replace both parts at once. manual says it should pull straight out but wont budge?

    I have a problem with rpm on boat?

    I finally took out boat I bought about 1 month ago. And engine runs fine and it get on plane ok. Once there The max rpm is about 2100-2200 at about 35 mph. Manual says should be 4000-4400 rpm. Throttle should be wide open. I've rev'd boat to about 3500-4000 with muffs on. Could prop be slipping...

    What type of gas?

    What octane gas do you use in your boat? I started mine today and hear what may be pinging when rev engine. I put in 87 octane and was wondering if most people use premium. I'll check the timing tomorrow to make sure it's not advanced to far.

    what temp is normal for boat?

    I have a 3.8 v-6 OMC and when I run it on trailer the temp gage never moves? I grounded wire on sending unit and gage pegs hi temp so its working. Water coming from stern is warm to hot -, but not hot enough to burn you though. Should temps get above or around 160 sitting on trailer. Just...

    What type of oils to use in OMC?

    I want to replace fluids in the intermediate, lower and upper housings. It says to use OMC hi vis gearcase lube, what is equal to this? and is the same used in all 3 parts of the sterndrive. How is the oil filled in the lower hosing? Read manual (seloc) but not sure is understanding it correctly.

    Are there any OMC service manuals(or owners manual for 1981 beachcraft 3.8 omc) on line I can look at, I bought a used boat and would like to know what to check before putting it in the water? What oils to change or check? Waiting for local shop to get manual in stock.
