    Mixing oil?

Thought I would ask here first. I have several plastic, partial bottles of oil, some SAE 10W40, 10W30, and SAE 30. All unused but all open. There is enough to combine into one full quart. It would be used in an old beater lawnmower at a lake house ... oversized wheels fitted and used to keep...

1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

Brief background (apologies for the length :) ): Got this engine, used ~ 10 years ago to replace the same motor in Johnson model which was stolen. That Johnson was always a bear to start after a few days of not running. Once it started, it would start with one or two pulls as long as it was...

    Nissan NS40D Control box/neutral switch/dead starter question

This a follow-on from my thread from Aug.24/2023 titled "Nissan 40 HP boat turtled". I am going to update that thread with the final piece. End result was another brain f#rt but it ended up with a trip to a pro and it now has a fully green light and after launching it yesterday it ran...

Been a while since I posted in this group....hope the same knowledgeable and helpful folks are still around. :) Background : Boat has been on blocks in the boathouse for 5 years....properly fogged and winterised.....in Canada. One screw-up was that I did not drain the carbs. Launched last...

We can probably all use a smile....

March Madness is cancelled, the NBA is shut down, the Masters is postponed, and my Aunt Marge’s senior bowling has even thrown in the towel. Now restaurants and bars are closed, and our 40-handicap governor is threatening to shut down all entertainment facilities including golf courses. I have...

    Question for motor sports historians

I remember (I think :) ) bac when I was a kid that on Saturday afternoon there were auto rodeos on tv. Demolition derbies, dirt track racing, and this crazy event that had a specially outfitted car....platform on the rear bumper, with grab-handles. The contestant wouldd stand on the platform as...

1975 Evinrude 6 HP. catburetor fuel inlet nipple

Decided to change all fuel lines on this motor. While removing the fuel line from fuel pump to carb, the carb inlet nipple came out of the carb body. Can I just push it back in with some sort of gasket sealer or do I really have a larger problem now?

Driveshaft end to crankshaft socket spline lubrication

Just reassembling this gem after resealing gearcase and with powerhead separated from exhaust housing.....for a second time....don't ask. :) The OEM manual says to use a mix of "one part molybdenum sulfide" (I am guessing that is just grease) "to 40 parts OMC Sea-lube Anti-corrosion Lube." I...

6 HP Evinrude lower bearing seal

Just reassembling this gem after resealing gearcase and with powerhead separated from exhaust housing. I am using mostly new components for the lower bearing seal assembly. Before I drop the powerhead back on I was looking at the seal in its place at top of driveshaft and wondered whether it...

1975 Evinrude 6 HP gearcase oil seal

Repair and reseal of the gearcase... The part that my service manual calls the gearcase head, OMC part #0382291 has an oil seal that I cannot get out to replace it. Had the same problem with the drive shaft seal in the impeller housing. Went at it from the back side with a drift...

Evinrude 1990 8HP lower unit separation and reinstall for impeller replacement

I am replacing the impeller and when I removed the L/U the drive-shaft stuck in the powerhead and the lower end came out of the gearcase. I have removed the shaft now and cleaned up the upper end. Should I be able to just replace he shaft in the lower unit or are the seals going to be...

1975 E/rude 6 HP lower unit, water bypass cover, orientation question

Took apart lower unit to re-seal it. While I was in the process, I decided to repaint it. I stripped and masked to do a better job and there is one part that I removed that I am unsure of how to replace. The part is referred to as the water bypass cover. It is a rectangular plate ~ 1/8" thick...

Rope size OMC small O/B "standard" recoil start

I have an Evinrude 6 and an 8 hp O/B. The 8 HP has a frayed recoil start rope. I am going to replace it before it breaks, and by the time I follow the manual and do the 8 HP, I may as well do the 6 as well while it is still fresh in my mind. The shop2evinrude site does not even list the part...

    Windows application error - 0xc0000022

I have suddenly started getting this error when opening Acrobat Reader DC. I uninstalled and re-installed Acrobat Reader, but no joy. Short of R&R of Windows 10, not sure what to try. Any ideas? Try an older version of the reader?

Link and synch 1990 Evinrude 8 hp.

Did an R&R on the carb for cleaning. According to the OEM manual to adjust the carb I need to do a full link and synch. I'm having trouble understanding why. The only item involved in the L&S that I disturbed is what they call the timing pointer. I cannot get myself to understand what the...

    NTSC vs. PAL question

In the bad old days, PAL and NTSC videos were incompatible formats...VHS tapes were not viewable on the other system. With newer formats, is it possible to view PAL stuff on new North American equipment, or are we still stuck with the PAL/NTSC roadblock? I'd like to buy a few DVD titles from...

    Remote desktop access question

Audio-visual cable gurus ~ connection question

I'm at a cabin for a few days and wanted to connect a DVD player to a new flat-screen TV. The only compatible cable option is the component video (RGB) RCA jack cable from the output on the DVD player to the input on TV. I don't have the correct cable, but have extra audio cables. I also am 50...
