1965 90 hp prop shaft movement

I am looking at buy a 1965 90 hp Mercury. One of the concerns I have about it is that I can move the prop shaft in and out about 1/2 to 1 inch. I have a Merc 400 and it does not do this, but from what I have read in my manual they don't have the same cam shift mechanism. Is this movement normal...

    1959 Traveler Restore

I am just beginning the work on restoring this boat. I am planning to remove the top to replace the transom, so the trim (aluminum with rubber) that covers the bow line where the top fits on the bottom of the boat will need to be removed to get to the attaching hardware. The aluminum is good...

    1963 Merc 110

I had a posting a few weeks ago and now I can't find it. Sorry for redoing this. The motor is a 9.8 hp, Merc 110. Compression, spark and all are good. Leak down test was only 2% at TDC. The problem is that when I choke it, the carb leaks gas out the throat. I have had the carb apart 3 times...

1975 85 hp Evinrude looses power

The model is 85593E. The fellow I bought this boat from said that the last time he had it out, it ran fine until they started back from across the lake. It would not run at full throttle. I took it out to see for myself and found that it ran fine even at full throttle for about 200 yds., then...

I have a Merc 110, 9.8 hp that I recently bought. The ser. # is 1547929. I have rebuilt the carb but I'm not sure what the fuel mix on this vintage Mercury should be. Can someone help with this? It has a white case, but there is some green showing on the lower unit where it is nicked in...

    Sea King Engine Identification

I have checked a list of Sea King (Gale) Model numbers and can't find this one. The Model number is GG8850A and Ser. # is 06x817478. On the cowl it says Sixty Electric. Also, does this have VRO oiling and where if so where and how do I check it? Is the oil mix 20:1 or 24:1?

    1959 Traveller Atlas

I recently bought this boat with the idea of restoring it. I have done some auto painting/body work and looked at some instructions on replacing the floor and painting gel coat. I'm pretty comfortable with that. It has a 35 hp Evinrude of the same vintage. I haven't run it yet, but the...

    Matching OB motor with boat

I have a 14 Sea King boat from the 70's without a motor. How do I determine which size motor will work best on this boat. It is light weight. I also has a steering wheel and cables, but the last owner used a rear tiller.
