voltage regulator, voltmeter, or something else?

So I get funny readings, from nothing to 16 volts, inconsistently on my voltmeter. Connections for everything feel and look good. Engine runs fine, battery #1 was OK all week. I have a 2-battery setup, run each a week at a time. This is a 2003 Merc 50hp 4-stroke EFI. From what I can...

    Hesitation: 2003 50hp EFI 4-stroke

This engine has been great. Still is. But three times in the last 6 or 7 hours of running she cut out for about one second and gave me one beep on the warning horn at the same time. Then kept right on going. Once was about 3500 RPM, twice at closer to 5000. No rhyme or reason. It felt like...

    4-stroke, oil-fouled plugs

Here's the story... 2003 Merc 50hp EFI 4-stroke. At the end of the '04 season I did all the owner maintenance and storage routines by the book. Run at WOT, or lower?

Under typical operating conditions my WOT of 5800 is in the middle of the manufacturer's specified range.
(2003 Merc 50hp EFI 4-stroke).

Is it significantly less engine wear and tear per mile to run on plane at, say, 4400RPM or 5200RPM instead of 5800RPM?

    50 EFI 4-stroke 100 hr service

I can easily do most of this service, but there are a few "check"s that Merc says have to be done by a service technician, and I assume that means not just know-how and instruments, but also maintaining the warrantee.

This is the initial service. I'll do it about 20 hours early...

    just once more, Merc =Yahama?

    launching solo

I'm new to powerboats, and in the middle of a backyard building project, which should be done about the end of the summer.

The boat is a 20' strip built cedar skiff, with just a painted hull. The bottom is flat, with round bilges and an oak keel which is only 1/2" deeper than the...

    correct prop

Thanks from a lurker for all the great information. Pure newbie. Never had a power boat.

I've run the options on the Mercury website for finding the right propeller for my engine and boat. http://www.mercurymarine.com/prop_selector

Problem is, none of the boats, from...
