this motor was a jewel of mine for two summers, and slowly it began coughing and cavitating upon startup, now it starts, burns the fuel in the bowl and dies if i dont squeeze the bulb alot...
ive rebuilt the fuel pump, or check valve..
any ideas?
i have read that my 98 9.9 fourstroke doesnt have a choke
is there a compaitble carburetor that came with a choke?
its hard to start unless the idle screw is ran in there
im thinking a choke would help
there is something electric atop the carburetor im thinking its a solenoid of some kind for...
starts fine after a choke, runs for a second
makes a pop or cough sound than dies..
twitches a bit when it does this
starts right back up.. but does the same thing

runs great but to start it ive got to pull the cowl off and hold the idle high, or just run the idle screw up so that the idles set high..
once warm it starts at a lower idle
only familiar with old oil burners..
this motor appears to have an electric choke
im looking for...

the motor runs great but i want to try and make it electric start
has anyone out there done anything like this?
would i have to buy another flywheel from an electric start?
alrighty, this motors come along nicely
after new points and condensers it runs on both cylinders
it idles nicely and seems alright except for two things
1) How do I know where the long rich/lean idle screw at the top of the carb should be at? I know you only go a quarter turn or so with them...

I have a 76 johnson 25
Checked spark, one of the two plugs fire
Took the flywheel off with a puller
Do i replace the points and condenser first?
Is there a way to check the coils?
intimidating looking under there, whats my first move?
79 25 johnson 25 will not go off idle speed in forward
gear but goes wide open in reverse sometimes
got it home in the barrel and had to hold the carb open
to get it to run but then it smoked like crazy
is there a neutral safety switch that cuts voltage?
