    Gasket?Seal ..learn as I go

    From looking at some parts on this site the leak I found.. more like a good steam would be from the thermostat housing I think.. Another leak I found was the gasket/seal the section above the lower end the top was leaking. Just looking at im guessing starting at the lower end to get it...

    Word of thanks for advice I get

    This is my first boat that I have owned..well one worth value and has a motor. My 97..40hp force runs great .I have to learn to repair it myself and no manual yet( no extra $$ yet). Just general maitenance so far For those that have responded to my posts I thank you.

    I was told ..more like mummbled to by a dealer (guess you have to spend more then $10) something to the affect of a pressure release for the thermostat. Waiting for my repair manual. Looks like a sort of housing on the base of the power head under the starter. Seems like that where the water is...

    QuickSilver vrs Force lower end gear oil

    Last year I used a force brand gear oil from the dealer in the lower end. I just changed it and the force brand was dark blue. This year I used Quick Silver and its more of a 10w30 in color. Any difference? Any complaints with QS ?:D.....Still with the water...under the starter...thermostat...

    1997 40 hp mercury force

    There is water leaking into the engine compartment. I ran it in a barrel of water and it looks like its coming from under the starter. Its clean water (no oil mixed) im thinking thermostat but not sure..any ideas..thanks
