changing impeller on 96 8 hp Mercury

I have an 8 hp 96 Mercury. I loosened the bolts on the lower unit to get to the impeller. The unit drops down about 6-8 inches and then gets hung up. Something on the shaft that goes up into the motor seems to be catching. What am I doing wrong? Any help will be appreciated.

    18 hp leaks gas

I have a 1968 18 hp Fastwin. I recently replaced the fuel pump. When I turn off the motor it leaks out a decent sized rainbow of gas into the water - a half circle about 4-5 feet across. I hoped that the new fuel pump might correct this problem, but it didn't. I know two strokes are messy...

    Evinrude 18 hp that kills

I have a late 1960s Evinrude 18 hp. It starts fine and runs fine most of the time. Periodically, however, it kills when it is running, even when running at high rpms. Once it kills, it will restart, but then it kills again like it is not getting fuel. The only way to keep it running when it...
