What is the part called that the power steering connects to?

At the very back of the boat connected to the fiberglass at the very back, in an I/O, there is a circular-ish cast aluminum ring that the power steering ram bolts into. I broke it! what is that called so I can start looking for a replacement.

Leaky power steering ram. Replace or rebuild?

Volvo Penta 4.3L and the power steering ram has been leaking. I have shopped for replacements, but they go around $700. I keep coming across a rebuild kit. Is the rebuild worth the hassle, or would I be better off in the long run by buying a new ram?

Trim clicks, but working less and less each day.

I originally thought it was the button, so I replaced it. Now it works sometimes, seems like it works better on land or on the ramp (cool engine), but have not confirmed this 100% Yesterday, I had to tow home with the engine only about 6" off the ground!!! While I am in the engine bay, my...

Steering intermittently hard/pulls to left, and leaky ram.

I am assuming these two issues are connected. 2003 Glastron 185 with V/P engine and outdrive. Been noticing steering fluid in bilge for about a year. Isolated the leak as coming from the power steering "ram", so wrapped a towel around it for the rest of the year to keep oil out of the bilge...

Small amount of oil in bilge after a day on the water.

When I get out of the water and pull the plug, just a slight amount of oil is appearing as a sheen on top of the water coming out. The only water that comes out is what I bring in from melted ice, entering the boat wet, etc. But there is a slight oil leak somewhere in the engine that is dumping...

Boat shuddered twice, while turning sharp, at idle. Whassup?

2003 Glastron GX185 with 190 hp Volvo and Volvo outdrive. We haven't used the boat much in the past two years, maybe twice or three times per summer. This last trip, we had another couple with us, when we are usually just the two of us and the dog, not sure if this is important info or not...

Impeller o-ring leaking, 2nd time this season. Thicker o-ring?

Beginning of the summer season, I replaced all rubber hoses, impeller, and leaky o-ring. Used it 3 times this summer, and today, after 2 months sitting, the o-ring is leaking again. Should I look for a slightly thicker 0-ring? Or should I look at some other cause of the problem? Just a slight...

1986 175 hp Johnson. Please show a picture of that front bolt to release lower unit

My dad is working on dropping his lower unit. Some linkage failed and blew something out, and cracked his lower unit housing. He is trying to get the lower unit off to assess the damage. But he has removed all the bolts he can see, including the one under the zinc, but we are hearing about a...

How to torque down 6 outdrive nuts without marring paint?

Just painted my outdrive, did winter maintenance, and reinstalled, and mess the paint up while torquing the 6 nuts that hold the outdrive on. Will have to sand down and repaint the upper half. Does anyone have a method for torquing it down without the universal socket joint marring the paint up?

Help! I am stuck. Literally. Trim hydraulic hoses stuck at block on transom.

The 4 hoses come out of a block up near the upper bellows, and there is a single nut holding that block on. I need to pull that block off so that I can free up my hoses. They are galded into the holes. I got one off, but the threads are shot, I will need to replace that block and all the hoses...

Can't find my parts online. Cany someone help?

I can get to the OEM parts page, but all I see is a list of o-ring, o-ring, o-ring, bellow, clamp, clamp, o-ring, etc with part numbers, but no description or pictures to show me which ones I am looking at. When I click on the part number, it adds it to my shopping cart, but I have no idea which...

First time pulling outdrive A couple questions, may be issues (maybe not?)

Water in the u-joint bellows. Not a lot, but the bottom ridges were full, and a little poured out when I pulled the outdrive. U-joints still feel smooth. Lots of grease at gimbal bearing, and when alignment tool inserted and twisted, there is a very faint vibe/sound (bearing shot?). I don't...

Successful prop upgrade. VP 4.3 3-blade aluminum to 4-blade stainless.

My boat came with a 21 pitch 14.3 diameter 3-blade stainless. When I first got it, it had a dent in one blade, so I bought a 23 pitch 3-blade aluminum prop as a spare. After using both, I found that I could do 49 mph (gps) at 4800 rpms (max) with the 21 pitch prop, but only 43 mph at 4400 rpms...

How much grease do you put in your hubs?

When you do a hub overhaul on your trailer, how much grease do you typically use? This is for use with dust caps, not bearing buddies. If you use a different amount with bearing buddies and wish to share, post in thread, please.

    bearing buddy keeps popping off

Lost one already, then another popped off this weekend. Brand new one. Had to pound on with a bfh so i know it is on tight. What would cause them to just pop off? Both times same side, replaced with new one. Getting 2-3 trips before it pops. Glastron trailer, good shape, had rubber plugs...

Another "which prop for me" thread... VP 4.3 sx

OK, volvo penta 4.3 with sx outdrive. redline for my engine is 4400-4600 rpms. I have a 21 pitch aluminum 3 blade prop that gets me 49 mph at 4800 rpms, my prop of choice, with a great hole shot. my spare is a 23 pitch aluminum 3 blade prop good for only 43 mph at 4200 rpms. I want a 4...

Can I trickle charge two batteries with one charger?

I have two similar, if not identical batteries, hooked together with an A-B-Both switch. Can I put a small jumper from positive to positive, negative to negative, and put the trickle charger on the batteries to "tend" both simultaneously? For recharging and/or winter upkeep?

Installing new shower curtain rod. Drill into tile or grout?

Before I do some permanent damage, would it be better to drill into the actual tile, or into the grout, to sink the "molly"? Did this once before in old house, but don't remember which I did. It was many years ago... Still have the 1/4" glass and tile drill. Do I need to run it really slow?

What exactly would I notice if I switch from 3-blade to 5-blade prop, same pitch?

I have a buddy urging me to get a 5 blade prop. I am currently running a 19p 3 blade aluminum prop. I am just peachy with it. It works just fine, planes quickly, pulls me up on wakeboard without issue. Pulls 4 adults and 600 lbs of ballast without even noticing the extra weight. So, What will...
