    Will a lower unit off of a pre-1991 90-degree 90hp outboard fit a 1997 Evinrude 90-special? The look the same. Although the part numbers for the complete gearbox is different, many of the internal parts seem to carry the same part numbers. Thanks! JSMoore

    I run a 1997 Evinrude 90 SPL, (E90TSLEUA), on a 19ft center console boat. The motor runs absolutely flawless at all speeds. Compression is 120, + or - a pound or two in all four cylinders. It's propped for 5200 RPM at WOT and typical loads. And, I get about 30 knots on the GPS. Sounds OK...

    Expensive - or not?

    The gearbox on my 1997 Evinrude 90 Special is getting some water contamination in it and needs new seals, etc. The gearbox works perfectly - the seals are just going away. Can somebody give me an idea how much $$ to budget for the repair? (Will probably have the water pump rebuilt, as well)...
