    It seems the standard for most small outboards is 15'' Short and 20" for long shaft. my question is the measurement is taken from the underside of the engine mounting bracket from the top of the transom down to ...? the water level? Also, the Tohatsu 9.9 2 stroke conversion to 15hp I see...

    Advice please?

    First time boaty. I have converted a 14' fibreglass sailing cat into a fishing platform and interested to know if anyone out there has any suggestions for engine size to drive it? I tried a 6hp Johnson (in picture) went well at full throttle but died..... gave it back! looking to put 8hp...
