    72 johnson slipping gear?

    i have a 72 9.5HP johnson that sounds like it is slipping out of gear. when in gear either wide open or not the motor will rev real high then stop then rev real high then stop. what could be the problem?

    what year is this motor?

    i inherited a johnson 9.9hp 50th aniversary series seahorse motor. i need to buy parts for it but don't know the year. The model number is 9R-72M. Can anyone help??? if so can you tell me what other motors i could swap parts with?
