    Tach jumping/misreading Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro

    My tach jumps around and sometimes creeps up and reads way high, then falls back down. The battery seems to still be receiving a charge from the engine, so does this mean it is the tach and not the voltage regulator? It is a '98 Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro.<br />Any input is greatly appreciated.
