Bent / Cupped Prop - Questions..

Hey all, In winter storage, I noticed my prop seems to be bent / cupped. The skeg also has a very minor (quarter inch?) chip in it (not pictured). Based on the picture, is this something that would likely have a noticeable effect on the boat? Vibration, noises, etc? I'm trying to figure out...

    Idiots Rundown on Boat Mechanics?

Hey ya'll! Been on the forums about 6 years here, and have owned my boat roughly as long. I'm no mechanic, so at this point in my boating life there is a vague image floating in my mind about what the core mechanical components are and how they work / what they do, largely because half of them...

    Dockside Food and Entertainment

Hey! So we're taking a full week off for a boat trip next week. We're going to hit a few different marinas, maybe spend a night at an anchorage or so. Wondering if anyone has suggestions for dockside entertainment and food to pack? I'm making a beersby set, and have some small pack-able...

    Distributor - Automotive vs Marine?

Hey! I'd like to replace the distributor cap and rotor this weekend on my 1994 Mercruiser 7.4. Can I pick up an appropriate part from AutoZone, or does this have to be a marine specific application?

Rub Rail - feeling like a @!%*#& Idiot

Hey crew, I'm trying to order and install replacement rub rail before splash time this spring. Everything I've read says to order the length of the boat + transom, +10 feet or so of extra for justincase, but I'm not, for the life of me, able to find anything in sections > 20 feet or so. I can't...

    ELI5 - Docking without a finger pier

Hey Crew! Can someone explain this to me like I'm 5? I've always seen pictures like the one linked below, of yachts in foreign lands squeezing into the dock shoulder-to-shoulder with other boats, and no finger piers between them. How does this work? Do they tie to polls forward of the vessel...

    Mounting exterior deck hardware (horn)

Well hey crew! I'm replacing the trumpet horn on the foredeck of my '94 Cabrio 280. My plan is to modify the new horn so i can re-use the existing mounting brackets and won't have to fill the old holes and drill new ones, however I haven't had the new horn apart, so I'm not sure if that'll...

    1994 7.4L Belt Change

I've consulted the oracle (google) all morning, but can't seem to find consistent information on what belts / sizes I need for my '94 7.4L and the procedure for replacing them. Anyone able to shove me in the right direction? I know its a simple job, just not sure what belts I need. There are 3...

Boat Vibrating - Really need your guidance!

Hey all! This past Sunday we took the boat out with some family, 6 people total (more than I've had before). I ran the boat about 10 miles out to the lighthouse and back at ~3400 RPM. About an hour trip in total. About halfway back to the dock I noticed some vibrating from the back of the...

Dashboard Wiring Issue - Any guesses?

About two years ago I replaced the dash and switch panel at the helm. New one looks great, and everything seems to work just fine. however... I noticed yesterday that there must be an issue or short somewhere in my wiring due to the following: 1) When the batteries are on and I flip the NAV...

Does this look like it needs replacing?

It's clearly not shiny and new, but I had my Bravo3 rebuilt 2 years ago (end of 2014) and now that I'm having my marina crack the drive off to service it, they're saying the u joint assembly needs replacing. How do I tell if this is actually failing? They're also quoting me a new gimbal...

Are all 1.5" Fuel Caps created equal?

The fuel dock last year lost my fuel filler cap. I purchased the 1.5", part number 412439, which seems to fit the hole, but doesn't screw in as though the thread is wrong. Are all 1 1/2" fuel caps identical, or are there different varieties with different threading?

What is this called and how do I replace it?

The water-come-outie things on the hull are pretty badly chewed up. It's purely aesthetic (as far as I know) but I'd like to replace them. Wondering what they're called, whats the best way to remove them from the hull & re-install new ones...

    Boat Horn - Replacement Bell?

So a mad wicked storm tore through last summer bringing wind like the fierce and unforgiving sneeze of Zeus himself. This gust effortlessly hurled my kayak from the pier upon which it was resting across the bow of my boat like a toddler mid tantrum tossing a toy. As it soared through the air...

    Would this bother you?

I store in indoor, full-service headed marine storage over the winter with a reputable service provider in the area. The boat came out mid October, and this is how I found it when I went to check on it this past weekend.. The canvas is probably 15+ years old, if not original, and I try to baby...

    F is for Fueltank..

Ran the boat up the river this afternoon for about 4 hours. 1/2 of the trip was idle or just above while we putted through bridges and past marinas, the other 1/2 was a good 10-25 MPH cruise (WOT at times because, why not). Boat ran perfectly the whole time. Get back to the marina, tie up the...

    Where to mount spotlight control?

I bolted up a new golight stryker spotlight to my bow pulpit a few years ago (it seems the original light was stolen sometime during its prior ownership). Having an aversion to drilling holes in boats, I never got around to screwing the wireless remote into the helm, but I feel like I should...

Stand / Mount for Dinghy Outboard

Hey! I'm contemplating scooping up an 8' inflatable with a 5-10HP outboard as a dinghy for the Larson. I have davits on my not-large swim platform that can be used to secure a dinghy, and I could also flip it atop the bow for storage, but I'm not entirely sure where or how I'd stick the...

    AAGGGFFFF Slow Boat!!!

Something of an old issue that I'm bringing back up, but I can _NOT_ get more than 25 MPH while WOT out of my '94 Cabrio 280 with single 454( Bravo-3). Emptied the on-board water tank, trimmed every which way (tabs and engine) and kicked all the fat people off, but 25 is the top she'll do) It's...

Need some words of encouragement (if possible?)

So I'm feeling mighty dejected after my first run out this year. Much to my appreciation, the 454 fired up cleanly and performed rather well. We went out for a quick jaunt into the bay to run the engine up and then came back in at a gentle cruise. Getting back into the slip, however, has me...
