I am attempting to change the water pump, Ihave all nuts and bolts loose and had to pry the gear case down it moved about 1 inch and will go no further any suggestions.

I have a 1983 merc 70 hp attempting to replace the water pump. I have the lower case dropped about one inch wont move any further. book says to remove upper reverse locking cam and nylon spool. How do I do this?
I am attempting to change the water pump in a 1983 70 hp merc having trouble removing the gear case, manual shows a nut onthe front top of the case its not there on mine is there a nut where the speedometer tube goes into the case?
