    1971 50hp merc not peeing and stalling

    I have a 1971 merc 50hp 500 and took it out today for the first time. Changed the lower unit oil and gaskets, changed the plugs, fixed a few wires here and there... and drained fuel tank. Got out on the water and it ran great! Not peeing too much water at all though, and water that was trickling...

    Water in lower unit?

    I have a 1971 50hp mercury 500 and have drained the lower unit oil. Upon doing so there was a little water mixed in with the oil which was gray/foamy. It is an older engine and I dont think it really has been changed all that much. It has only been ran in freshwater, and the bottom plug did not...

    1971 50 HP MERC FUEL RATIO AND LOWER UNIT OIL?

    DOES ANYONE KNOW THE FUEL RATIO FOR THIS ENGINE? IS IT 50:1? ALSO HAVING PROBLE FILLING LOWER UNIT WITH OIL. VERY HARD TO SQUEEZE BOTTLE, AND DOESNT SEEM TO BE TAKING IT IN. BOTH PLUGS ARE OFF, IS IT JUST THAT HARD TO DO? MY FIRST IME DOING THIS. ANY INFO APPRECIATED.

    50 Hp Merc, What year? Also Changing lower unit oil?

    I just bought a 50 hp merc 500 series, only #'s are 3170606 (serial #) can anyone help me find out what year the motor is? My motor has two screws. One silver (vent) and black plastic plug (flush) Is the flush where you fill it? But the flush is above the vent plug? :confused:
