    Switch box failure?

    I have a 78 mercury 900 90 hp that I had replaced the timing belt and re timed due to when I had turned the motor over it had done nothing but backfire, because it had backfired I had assumed it had spark prior to the replacing of the belt (I could be wrong?).     1979 yarcraft

    I have recently acquired an 1979 18' yarcraft that has some issues. A lot of it is in the mercury 900 motor it's self which seems to do nothing but backfire when we attempt to start it. I've recently bought the repair manual for this motor and am about to get into it and see what the issues...
