New transom installed but outside of transom is not flat

PBed new transom wood in, but now outside of transom is not flat. Looks like about .100 almost an 1/8 inch, in middle of keyhole going vertical. Now what, do I have to grind all the gel coat off and fill with fiberglass, then new gel coat.

PB'ing new transom wood to boat

I've been reading and watching different threads and youtube videos and I'm not sure if I should use 1/4" chop strand fibers in my peanut butter for gluing the transom wood to the back of the boat. It looked like Friscoboater used fibers in his PB for the transom. Not sure if todhunter did and...

    Cracking in peanut butter

I drilled all my holes in my transom oversized and filled them with my mixture of peanut butter, which was pretty runny. I later had to thicken it up to do the fillet on the transom boards. But now that it is hard I noticed some cracking in the resin filled holes. Is that normal to get cracking...

    Transom rebuild questions

The total thickness of my transom was right around 1.950, it was 1 full layer all the way across of 23/32, then a 3' wide piece 23/32 and a 3/8"(about .344) piece nailed to that. Glass on transom is about .200, basically no glass over the wood. So I was wondering if I should try to do something...

    fiberglassing in new floor

I have a 78 Thompson I am putting a new floor in, and want to put a layer of fiberglass over the top, so no water can get to the plywood. I'm thinking a layer, maybe 1/8 inch or less thick and tie it back into the sides of the boat, like it was originally. I don't have much experience with...

Replacing 470 starter with pmgr starter

This is on a 1978 mercruiser 470 I've read a lot of threads about how to wire the new pmgr starter, but am still a little confused. I get that you have to run a new wire from the slave solenoid to the starter solenoid, but then everyone says you need a new positive battery cable. So do I leave...

    Pertronix for 78 Mercruiser 470

Been thinking about installing a pertronix Ignitor in my 78 Mercruiser 470 Should I just go with the Ignitor or would it be a better idea to get the Ignitor II ? Guess my question is, do I need the extra benefits of the Ignitor II for my old 470 and would it be worth the extra money?

    470 Mercruiser starter

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Hope I'm posting this in the right section. I have a 78 Thompson with the 470 merc, It has been in the family since about '81. I have always delt with the slow cranking of the original starter. I had the starter rebuilt about 1 year ago, put new battery cables in also...
