    Can't get a nice Idle RPM < 800

Re: 1989 Mariner 75hp 3cyl I had to lower my Idle RPM as I was grinding a bit with shifting as the neutral idle RPM was around 1200 and forward idle RPM was around 1000. I have got the idle RPM in neutral down to 950 and in Forward around 750-800. I can't seem to get it any lower w/o a lot...

    Quicksilver Special Lube 101

Most of the applications for my motor require Quicksilver 2-4-C with Teflon for lubrication. I am wondering if anyone has specific recommendations for where to use 101 or what the advantages of 101 are over 2-4-C?? It cost over twice as much, but what is it for? Thanks Jeff

Lower mount kit for 75hp Mariner

I have a 1989 75hp Mariner 3cyl OC170850 that has a deteriorating lower mount/ yoke. It has a lot of play in it, can move engine a good 1/2" forward/backward at the lower mount. I need to replace the bolts and hardware to the lower mount (yoke). Part# is 42930A 1. Does anyone know what is...

    Broken Water Jacket Bolts

I made the mistake of attempting to remove my water jacket cover on my 89 Mariner 3cyl motor last week. I snapped 8 of the 19 bolts holding it on. The bolts are grade 9.8 M8-1.25. Any suggestions of what kind of drill bits to start with to get them out. I am looking into Solid carbide bits...

    Application of Interprotect Barrier paint

I applied my first layer of INterprotect 3000 barrier paint today following a month of glassing/ fairing. I used a 3/8" nap solvent-resistant roller from West Marine. The problem is the amount of lint this thing put out. The entire bottom is now speckled with polyester-type pieces of lint...

    Repairing damaged chine/ stringer.

I have stripped all the layers of old bottom paint off the ole Whaler, revealing some areas of prior repair before I bought the boat. The chine had a crack through the center of it, horizontally, for about 20" that was allowing water to enter the hull while underway. I've removed the damaged...

Fast Idle on Quicksilver Commander 2000

I have a Quicksilver Commander 2000 controller. There is a button on the lower part of the handle that is square shaped and says "throttle only". I am assuming this is the button to push in so I can have the fast idle function when advancing the throttle level forward. However, it doesn't...

Bottom Yoke Replacement- nothing on iboats.

I need to replace the bottom yoke of the swivel bracket that attaches to the motor. It is a U-shaped piece w/ 2 hex bolts that go to the bottom of the mid-unit. Problem is the shift shaft runs through it, so removing the lower unit doesn't give me access to it. Can this be done by removing...

New Power Trim Kit ? Relays

I just got my new power trim assembly in the mail today (Part number 826729A08) to replace a trashed unit. The new kit comes with trim relays that I guess replace the trim solenoids. What is the purpose of these relays? Do they last longer/ more reliable than solenoids? I have a Commander...

Throttle/ Shift cable replacement on Mariner

I replaced both my throttle and shift cables on my 1989 Mariner 75hp 3cyl today as one of the cable's insulation rusted through completely. Everything fit in its place without a hitch. My question is, what direction do I adjust the trunions on the engine end of the cable.. Do I make any...

    Running with a Clogged Thermostat

I just opened up my thermostat panel on the back of my 1989 Mariner 75hp 3 cylinder for the first time since I've owned it (5 years). When I opened it, I found the thermostat was clogged with sand/ corrosion and obviously not functional. The poppit valve large gasket was also falling apart. I...

75 Mariner 3 cyl Still no spark.

I have an 89 Mariner 75 3 cyl (ser #OC170850) which died suddenly at the end of the season last year after running flawlessly. I've found that no spark was present at all 3 cylinders. I found that one of the trigger leads (white) was completely disintegrated. Replaced trigger with brand new...

Mercury Mariner 75 No spark at any of 3 coils

I have a 1989 Mariner 75hp 3 cyl (SN# OC170850). Had been running well until the end of the season although hard to start cold at times. Now no spark at any of the three coils w/ spark plug tester. Tested the stator ohms: at spec of 1.0 ohms. Starter turns over well, battery at 100%...

    Mariner 75 starting problems

I am running a 1989 Mariner 75hp 3cyl with no problems once the motor is warm. The problem is the cold starting routine. It takes at least 5+ tries to get it and sometimes it still wont turn over. New lines, vent open, fresh fuel, new primer bulb, full charge battery, new plugs, no leaks in...
