    Which Engine?

I'm getting ready to repower my '88 Boston Whaler Montauk and am looking at 2 engines. I would be interested in any feedback you might have. One is an '06 Evinrude E-tec 90 hp. The engine is selling for $4750 but after an adapter harness and labor etc., it would be about $5885 - a guess based...

    Trim/Tilt Question

I have a 1988 90hp Johnson TLC that was rebuilt in 1995. The trim and tilt has recently stopped working and I need to adjust it. The engine is currently up, and I need to get it down. Is there are manual release someplace that I'm missing? Thanks for your help.

    Starter Question

I have a 1988 Johnson 90TLCC. When I turn the key, it turns with a very slow turn, not enough to start the engine and sounds like the battery is dead. It will occasionally fire after several turns of the key. I have also been able to get it to start by hitting the top of the starter. Am I...

    Hub or pin?

I have a 1988 Johnson 90TLCC. On a recent trip, it would run at low rpm and would only rev at high rpm. A little later on the same trip, it engaged and ran well at higher rpm. I did risk it and ran it again on another trip and had no problems. Does this sound like a hub or pin problem (or...

    Lacking Power

I have a 1988 90hp Johnson TLC that was rebuilt in 1995. I made the mistake of thinking that I was going to use it over the winter and didn't so I had the problems caused by bad gas sitting. Initially it would run well and then go through periods of cutting off when I was about to get on a...

    Flushing RPM's

I know that you are not supposed to rev the engine while flushing with muffs, but I have never known the technical reason. What is the reason for not doing this if you have water running through it and how sensitive are engines to damage from this?

    Correct Oil/Fuel Mixture

I recently bought a boat with a 1988 90hp Johnson TLC that was rebuilt in 1995. The serial number is R7809058. The seller says that he has been running the mixture at about 40:1, and I was thinking that it should be 50:1. Could you give me the correct ratio?<br />Thanks
