    Thanks to all who helped me

    impeller removal 1960 merc 400

    I removed the lu without any trouble today but cannot get the inpeller cover plate off. I have soaked it in pb blaster tried a punch with a 5 lb dead blow hammer and have mde a spanner wrench to fit the holes in the plate. all to no avail. Is there a key in the little notch in the housing next...

    water in lower unit- 1960 merc 400

    I pulled the lower housing inspection screw out and goty only clear water no lube. The water was not rusty and the prop moves smoothly Is this a problem. I assume I pulled the corect screw to check the lube it looks like a countersunk machine screw short with an o-ring. I could not find anything...
