"Nostalgic" gets a refit or drewpster has a big FIT- one will occur!

OK guys the little boat is wet so the time has come to make plans to get the big boat going. So far the list of items needing done is growing and is sure to get larger as the work progresses. I intend to start grinding toward the end of summer and press through to next spring getting the hull...

    Mercury engine decals

I know a few guys in here have used decals off ebay when they paint thier engines. It seems the supplier on ebay has the decals I need for my 1990 Mercury. If you have used these decals, are they good quality? The ones I want are $50, thats a bit steep for stickers. I dont want to get ripped off.

    V-lock Accessory mount

I was interested if any one here has experience with a V-lock (v-lock.com) mount. I was thinking of using it as a trolling motor mount. My steering linkage will not allow my trolling motor clearance to mount it on the transom. Is the V-Lock mount heavy enough?

General question about Merc TILT wiring

I am installing the wiring to my control for my 1990 90hp mercury with a Commander 2000 control box. I notice in the diagram of the Merc Manual that the power for the tilt switch at the control box comes directly from the hot wire at the engine. This means the tilt circuit will have power...

    Fuel system

With today's gas being what it is, I wanted to run a fuel/ water seperating filter in the fuel system of my outboard. The complete system is new (tank, hoses, vent ect) because this is a restored boat. I am running a 90 hp Merc three cylinder (1990) engine. I am using a permenent tank plumbed to...

    Opinions on Fuel tank

Thanks to Santa I got my fuel tank for my tri-hull today. The problem I have is that it is rather large. I am working on a 16 foot tri-hull with a 90 hp outboard. My thinking when selecting the tank was to get the largest capacity for the size that will fit where it is mounted. I measured the...

Need help with trolling motor mounting

My wife bought me a really nice transom mount trolling motor for my little tri-hull. Unfortunately the transom mount gets in the way of the tiller of the outboard. Are there optional mounts for Motorguide that will allow the tiller to travel left and right without hitting the mount?

    Aluminum Windshield Restoration

I promised someone I would do a post on how I restored my windshield. Well, it is finally completed so here goes. Unfortunately my camera was not available when I started the teardown of the windshield, but the construction is pretty basic. The windshield is five pieces; the walkthrough door...

    Tri-hull project Wiring

I was asked to do a detailed post on the wiring I have done on my tri-hull project boat. As the time becomes available and the system gets more complete, I will detail what I have done. The system is rather basic. My plan was to run the engine and boat accessories as seperate systems. The engine...

    Ignition switch wiring Mercury

Can anybody tell me the color code for wiring an ignition switch for a 1990 or so Mercury 90hp outboard? I am using a remote push-to-choke switch rather than the one in the shifter box. The one in the shifter box is missing so I am going with an aftermarket switch. I also need to know how to set...

    Removing Scratches from Glass Windshield

I remember years ago reading an article for a process to remove scratches from windshield glass. I am sure I remember reading that you use a rubbing compound to buff the glass out. I just dont remember the type or grit. It could also be jewler's ruge. I just do not remember. I have good glass in...

    Vinyl Windshield Glazing

I need to revisit this to see if anyone has located a good source for windshield glazing. I have my windshield apart for powder coating and the glass is out. I have searched, and have yet to find what I need. I have tried Taylor Made directly with no luck and several others. Please tell me I am...

    LED Lighting

I want to get some LED lights to go under the gunnel of my tri-hull to light the deck. At first the idea was to use rope lights, but I do not like the way they connect together and the price is pretty high. I am having some trouble selecting what would work. I want to go with LED to add allot of...

    An elite group

Just thought I'd drop a little story on you guys. My wife and I took our annual trip to Key West two weeks ago. We rented a house this time with the in laws and took a boating/ snorkeling trip. It was great. As I do every year, I took a wander down to the marina to walk the docks and look at all...

    Has drewpster lost his mind?

Well kids the little boat is slowly coming to a close. I have a bunch of little details to get done and it will be officially finished. My attention and planning are turning toward the big yellow tub sitting in the driveway awaiting some much needed attention. If you are not familiar i am...

    Merc oil Injection

I bought my 90 hp Merc used and it runs good. At some point a previous owner removed the oil tank. I was told to premix the oil like I would an older outboard. The pump assmbly is still there. i was thinking of replacing the missing parts and getting the oil system working again. Is it worth my...

    What is this?

There is a plate that bolts to the bottom of the engine bracket of my mercury. It is held on with 2 1/4 bolts and appears to be aluminum. I though it may be a zinc. What is this for? If possible I need to remove it to uncover a blocked drain that it partially covers. I can put it back on if it...

    Stainless Tubing Bender

Every now and then I re-post this question to see if anyone has come up with an easy way to bend handrails. I have looked in to some benders that look like they could handle the pipe, but I have found none of them that have a provision for bending finished, or polished pipe. I have also looked...

    Problems with Keel Guard"

I want to know about any problems any one has had using Keel Guard. I was thinking of using it in my tri-hull. I am not a big believer in "peel and stick" applications. While I do not plan to drag the boat, I was thinking it may help protect the paint from the trailer's keel rollers. Anybody...
