1982 35hp Johnson Outboard still runs bad

I have a 1982 35hp Johnson Outboard. I bought it used. It only runs with the choke almost completely closed and even then it doesn't get full power. I completely rebuilt the carborator per the suggestion of several of you guys. After a complete cleaning and rebuild, it runs the same. If I hold...

    Johnson 35hp power problem

I recently bought a 1982 Johnson 35hp 2 cyl. engine. It never really has run great. It seems like it starts cutting out at top speed. However, yesterday when I first put it on the lake it ran better than it ever has, full power, planed out great. Then, near the middle of the day it started...

I realize that it depends on the model but with less than $200.00 to spend on a fishfinder, what brand of these three is generally the best: Bottom Line, Hummingbird or Garmin?

Replacing flywheel key on a Johnson 35hp outboard.

I have been told that I need to replace the sheared flywheel key on my 1982 Johnson 35hp outboard. If I take the bolt off the top can I get to the key or is it further down? Do I need a flywheel puller like on a car engine? What's involved?

Motor trouble - please help - Johnson 35hp

I took my boat out today (motor is a 1982 Johnson 35hp 2 cyl.). Motor started great and ran fine for a while. Then it made a grinding sound and shut off. When I tried to restart it, it backfires every time I turn it over but won't even come close to starting (it never backfired before). I seem...

Johnson 35HP slows during the day

I have a Johnson 35HP that slows during the day. When I start off the boat goes well up on a plane, yet coming home later in the day it seems like it's just barely on plane. Any ideas? I've noticed it several times (different days).

I thought starters could be rebuilt!!!

My starter burned up in my Johnson 35 (J35RLCND). I took it to a starter place and they told me it couldn't be rebuilt. The wiring (field coils) is shot but the shaft, aramature and housing look ok (no physical damage). The starter solenoid stuck on and burned the starter up. Anybody have a...

How important is a cavitation ring?

I bought a used fiberglass boat with a Johnson 35hp outboard motor. When I had it on the trailer someone told me that the cavitation ring was missing from the prop. What kind of problems will that cause me? Are they easy to install yourself?

    Transom glue

I'm making a transon from two pieces of 3/4" outdoor plywood which I plan to seal with epoxy. What is the best to glue them together? Should I also use epoxy or will poly construction adhesive be ok? I've heard that it sticks for a lifetime, wet or dry.

    Polyester or epoxy????? Help!!!

To repair a transom (new wood) and floor in a fiberglass boat, is polyester OK (with glass cloth) or should I bite the bullet and pay triple for epoxy?

    Help with epoxy/fiberglass!!!!!!!

I am replacing the transom on a 14' fiberglass boat. I see all the "marine epoxys" online for upwards of 100.00 per gallon (with hardener). They usually are mixed 2:1 Resin/Hardener. Yet I see at Lowes they have 3M epoxy for 32.00 per gallon. It comes with a gallon of resin and a small tube of...

    Rivet removal help!!!!

On a small fiberglass boat (14ft) how hard is it to separate the deck from the hull? It looks like that under the rubber bumper (set in an aluminum trim piece) is a series of rivets. It's hard to get to the back sides of many of the rivets to grind them off. Is it relatively easy to drill them...

    Transom repair

I have a small (14') fiberglass outboard boat. The transom is completely rotted and the inside coating on the wood (not really fiberglass but similar) is falling apart. Should I get inside the boat and scrape all the old wood out and work from in there (a real pain) or should I cut the transom...
