    Thru-Exhaust With 4 Banger

Re: Thru-Exhaust With 4 Banger Ignition advance is set by the knock sensor, fuel injector duration (fuel/air ratio) is set by the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor based on manifold pressure. Increased flow would lower the manifold pressure thus causing more fuel to be injected...

    looking for bimini top pictures

Re: looking for bimini top pictures I was really disappointed in this thread. Guess I'll have to pay more attention next time, that "m" instead of a "k" between the "i"s makes a huge difference! :)

Interesting Comparison of motor size vs fuel consumption

I was browsing through the magazines today at the boat shop and the June 2010 issue of Boating magazine has a comparison of a Stingray 235 and a Grady White 230 with different size engines. Summary is: Stingray 235 --------4.3L-----5.0L-----5.7L MPG----3.92-----4.42-----4.84 Grady White 230...

What happens when you don't know what you're doing ...

Interesting thread about a couple of guys and their adventures with a big boat up in Canada ..... It started as a 40', was lengthened to 60', then they lengthened it to 80' and added some more topside structure. http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?t=99253

    OK to Re-Use Piston?

Would it be OK to re-use this piston if I used some JB Weld to re-build the ring groove? It's the #4 piston in a 1986 5.7 with 630 hours. The motor idled and ran smooth, but couldn't reach max RPM. It's the starboard engine on a 30' Sea Ray with twin 5.7's. Port motor can turn over 5000 RPM on...

Drive won't stay down in reverse

Thinking about buying a 1988 Sea Ray with a Merc 260 and Alpha outdrive. Looked at the boat today and it looks nice. Owner brought the wrong key so we couldn't run it. He says the outdrive tries to come up when you put the boat in reverse. Going to look at the manuals now, just wondering if...

    Scam Baiting

Been having fun with this one. Saw this 30' 1996 Sea Ray on Boats.Com for $3,500. Looks brand new in the pics: http://www.boats.com/boat-details/Sea-Ray-Sundancer/110337401 What a deal! I'm gonna grab this boat! Trailer's worth about that much by itself! I hit the "More Info" button and...

    Lucky Broken Skeg

Interesting week with the boat last week. Cleverly forgot to tilt the outdrive up a couple of weeks ago when putting the boat in the backyard. Hooked the sidewalk with the corner of the skeg. Bent the end of it like a banana and broke it off. Figured I could straighten the broken piece out...

Great time to buy tow vehicles!

If you've been looking for a dedicated heavy duty tow vehicle it's a great time to get one. Car lots are loaded with 3/4 ton pickups and SUV's that people are dumping to get something that will save on gas. Just picked up a loaded 99 3/4 ton 4WD Suburban LT for $3000. 4 brand new tires...

    Prop Slip Questions

Anybody have any ideas on how to accurately measure actual prop slip? My calculated slip works out to about 2% at WOT. I very seriously doubt if my boat is that efficient, figure something in the 12% range would be more realistic. Drive is a Bravo 3 (twin counter-rotating props) with 28...

Pre-Alpha shift cable problem - Solved!

Just replaced the upper on a 1980 pre-Alpha drive. Had everything in forward when it was installed to the transom. Went together fine. Had only neutral and reverse once everything was bolted up. If I take the shift cable loose and push it together it goes into forward fine. Went to adjust...

    Need some rings!

I put some flush table mounts in my boat and need the grommets or rings or whatever they're called that go into the carpet after you cut the hole for the table leg, like this one around the ski locker handle. It's some kind of black plastic. Anyone have any idea where I can get some? I've been...

    Project Mark Twain - Advice?

Friend gave me a boat with a locked up motor. He traded a gun for it around the first of the year. The guy he got it from got it from an auction in California. I think it's an '82 Mark Twain, supposed to get the titles next week. It was supposedly running back in March (8 months ago). Has 3...

    Smartcraft Conversion Info Needed

Looking for some advice from the Mercruiser gurus! I have a customer who wants to convert his boat to the Smartcraft controls. His son lost an arm in an auto accident and he wants the Smartcraft because you can use a foot throttle (so the son could drive it) or the standard hand throttle by...

Boat Performance Secrets - How Speed, Acceleration and Efficiency Works!

Do you want to know why your boat works the way it does? I?m going to use a 300 HP rated, 350 cubic inch, I/O for an example. The curves would be similar on any other motor, just different numbers. Doesn't matter if it's an I/O or an outboard, the physics are the same! The motor has no idea...
